6/22/25 Houston Astros' Biggest Playoff Strength Lurking in Pitching Staff. The Houston Astros have solid control of the American League West, five games ahead of the Seattle Mariners entering Sunday's action. Houston has split the first two games of its series with the Los Angeles Angels after suffering a 9-1 blowout on Saturday night. Jeremy Peña is slashing .324/.380/.482 on the year, finally delivering the breakout campaign that Astros fans have been patiently waiting for. Jake Meyers has exploded onto the scene too, going from reliable to depended upon, slashing .307/.368/.406 with 13 doubles.

6/15/25 Astros Power-Throwing Pitching Prospect Could Be Seen in Majors Very Soon. The Houston Astros have leaned on their offense to not just stay afloat, but thrive in the top spot in the American League West as their pitching staff continues to deal with injuries, both lingering from last season and new from this one. Guys like Jeremy Peña, Jake Meyers, and Isaac Paredes are contributing on offense all season when the team has needed it the most, and the team will be in good shape when Yordan Alvarez gets back from injury. Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco have both gotten Tommy John surgery in the past month and will miss all of this season, with next season also coming into Jeopardy.

6/13/25 Houston Astros rout Minnesota Twins, Chris Paddack in series opener. Stilll, it was Paddack who suffered the most startling fall. Four pitches into his start, the tall righthander, a proud Texan who said he loves pitching in his home state, faced a second-and-third jam with nobody out. He walked the bases loaded with one out, but struck out Jake Meyers to give himself a chance to escape unscathed. But Cam Smith spoiled that plan by looping a single into center field, scoring two, and Jacob Melton followed with an RBI hit of his own.

6/07/25 Astros take lead on wild pitch and defeat Guardians 5-3 in 10 innings. Jake Meyers scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, Isaac Paredes drove in an insurance run and the Houston Astros defeated the Cleveland Guardians 5-3 in 10 innings on Saturday. Yainer Diaz had a two-run homer in the sixth as the Astros won for the fifth time in six games. Cleveland's José Ramírez had two hits, including a two-run homer in the seventh inning, and extended his on-base streak to a career-best 33 games.

5/26/25 What Has Caused the Major Offensive Turnaround for This Astros Outfielder?. The Houston Astros seemed to know what they had in Jake Meyers. The former 13th-round pick always showed himself to be a good defender but had issues with the bat in his hand, posting three straights seasons with an OPS+ figure well under the league average of 100 while also having defensive bWAR numbers above zero. Meyers had the worst slash line of his career since becoming a full-time big league player with a mark of .219/.286/.360, but his career-high bWAR of 1.7 was largely due to his defensive bWAR being 1.0. While those types of players are valuable for teams around the league that need reliable defensive substitutes who can play multiple positions across the outfield, Meyers' lack of impact on offense for the Astros made him a real non-tender candidate this past winter.

5/20/25 Rays Walk Off Astros To Even Series. The Tampa Bay Rays (22-26) defeated the Houston Astros (25-23) 3-2 on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field to even the three-game series at one-game apiece. The Astros took an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Jake Meyers RBI double in the second and a solo homer from former Ray Isaac Parades in the third. The score would remain 2-0 until the eighth inning, when Jonathan Aranda had a two-run single to tie the game. Then in the ninth inning, the Rays got the win thanks to a sacrifice fly from Taylor Walls. Zack Littell got the start and allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking one. Manny Rodriguez got the win out of the bullpen after working a scoreless ninth inning. The

4/07/25 Jhoan Duran drops new sweeper on Astros. When he struck out Houston's Jake Meyers for the second out of the eighth inning Sunday afternoon, right-hander Jhoan Duran did the little hop on the mound he typically does to accentuate the moment. There seemed this time to be a bit more spring in Duran's step, possibly because it was a particularly nasty looking pitch, one he had never thrown before in a game: a sweeper. Duran threw Meyers an 87.3 mph sweeper, per MLB Statcast, that had 11 inches of horizontal break and 41 inches of drop. Perhaps it was because he had no idea it was coming, but Meyers had no chance.

2/25/25 New coach Perezchica has Giant connection to Astros player. Tony Perezchica's connection to the Astros comes through outfielder Jake Meyers, whose father, Paul, played with Perezchica in the San Francisco Giants organization. Perezchica, who is also the Astros' run prevention coordinator, has emphasized fundamentals and defense during Spring Training, an area of focus for manager Joe Espada.

2/19/25 Houston Astros Star Outfield Prospect Dealing With Back Issue in Camp. Outfield will be discussed at nauseum for the Houston Astros this season. Jake Meyers will look to take the next step in his career at the plate after his offense has been underwhelming to this point, and Chas McCormick will try to bounce back after the worst showing of his career last year. Jose Altuve also seems poised to make the transition to left field, with him getting his first game reps in the grass during the first contest of the spring. Ben Gamel and Taylor Trammell are also in the mix, but neither player inspires too much confidence that they can step in and help replace some of the production no longer in the clubhouse now that Tucker is with the Chicago Cubs.

2/13/25 Houston Astros Outfielder Has Emotional Reaction to Shocking Alex Bregman News. 10/15/24 Red Sox Have Two Gold Glove Finalists, Surprise Snub. The Red Sox finished with two finalists for the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, but neither name is one you'd might expect. Duran and Abreu are both worthy of their status, having each made tremendous strides in the outfield this season. Duran will compete with Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers and Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Varsho, while Abreu will contend with New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell.

8/07/24 Texas Rangers fans continue to shower Astros with boos in latest Silver Boot installation. ARLINGTON ? The only other ballpark fanbase that may 'boo' the Houston Astros louder than Texas Rangers fans at Globe Life Field are the die-hard New York enthusiasts at Yankee Stadium. Jake Meyers, Astros outfielder who drove in two RBIs on Tuesday ahead of Houston's 4-2 win over Texas, said that the rowdy fans at Globe Life Field makes the atmosphere more enjoyable. In fact, he said he's amused by the boos in the stands.

7/21/24 Astros take sole possession of 1st place for 1st time this season with 4-2 win over Mariners. Jake Meyers hit a go-ahead two-run homer off former Houston reliever Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning, and the Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 to take sole possession of first place in the AL West for the first time this year. Stuck playing catchup through the first 3½ months of the season, Houston has won six of eight to climb into first place all alone. Seattle lost its fifth straight and fell out of first place for the first time since May 11. Meyers drove a 1-2 pitch from Stanek to right-center field for his 11th homer of the season. Julio Rodríguez snapped Seattle’s 14-inning scoreless drought with his two-run homer in the sixth.
