New York Yankees Could Have X-Factor In Injury Riddled Bullpen The New York Yankees have called this former setup man from the minor leagues, who could make a big impact in their injury riddled bullpen. Author: Pat Ragazzo Apr 24, 2024 In this story: New York Yankees Yankees Ron Marinaccio The New York Yankees' bullpen has been slammed by the injury bug in the early portion of the 2024 regular season. In less than a month, the Yankees have lost relief pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga and Nick Burdi the injured list. Loaisiga, who was expected to be the main eighth inning arm, underwent Tommy John surgery, which means his season is over. The team is also without Tommy Kahnle, Lou Trivino and Scott Effross

Caleb Durbin put himself on the radar as a prospect to watch last season when he hit .304 playing 22 games with High-A Hudson Valley and 47 with Double-A

3/24/24 Yankees option 3 arms to Triple-A as Opening Day bullpen begins to take shape. The Yankees haven't made an announcement regarding who will fill the final few spots in their bullpen on Opening Day just yet, but a few contenders can be ruled out after a set of transactions on Sunday. Right-hander Ron Marinaccio, lefty Nick Ramirez and swingman Cody Poteet were all optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the team revealed after a 1-0 win over the Pirates at LECOM Park. Starter Will Warren was also reassigned to minor-league camp. Looking at the current state of the Yankees' roster, there are five locks to be in the big-league bullpen on Opening Day.

2/18/24 How Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio can be a factor in 2024. Hampered by a shin injury that robbed him of strength in 2023, Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio is in a better place physically this spring training.

2/18/24 Yankees hope Ron Marinaccio's offseason foundation work leads to 2024 rebound. TAMPA — The Yankees have talked about many of their pitchers entering spring training with a better foundation from their offseason work. Ron Marinaccio has taken that literally. A stress reaction in his shin late in the 2022 season limited his offseason preparation entering 2023, when he took a step back from his strong rookie season. 3 Ron Marinaccio delivers a pitch during Yankees' spring training practice. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post This offseason, though, Marinaccio was able to get in all of his lower-half strength training, giving him a better foundation that the Yankees believe can help him bounce back as a bullpen contributor in 2024. “I don't think he had a good base coming into

This year, a lack of command first got him sent back down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and still has him there. When the Yankees placed right-hander Albert Abreu on the injured list on Friday with a strained right hamstring, they

8/18/23 Yankees summon in arm for Red Sox series, decide on a starter for series opener. It wasn't long ago that Ron Marinaccio was a big part of the Yankees' bullpen. The righty had a standout rookie season in 2022 and was solid for the first three months of this season. A slump that began in July, however, led to a demotion back to Triple-A, then more struggles with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Marinaccio, 28, was 4-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 40 Yankees games when he was optioned on July 31.

7/31/23 Yankees demote Ron Marinaccio, recall Jhony Brito to start. The MLB Trade Deadline is a little over 24 hours away as of the time of writing and the Yankees have made a transaction in advance of their three-game series against the Rays (who just traded for Cleveland's Aaron Civale). Ron Marinaccio was one of the the Yankees' success stories in 2022. It seemed like he had earned his spot as a solid middle-relief staple with flexibility to set up if needed, but the magic hasn't been there for Marinaccio in 2023. The sad thing is that the statistics above would look even worse if it they didn't include the 2.2 innings of scoreless garbage time that Marinaccio threw last night in Baltimore.

7/27/23 Yankees' struggling reliever hints at confidence issues. The Yankees boast a strong bullpen. It was on display Wednesday night as four relievers put together 3 1/3 perfect frames in the 3-1 win over the Mets. Elsewhere in New York's bullpen, Ron Marinaccio is having a poor month.

Blasted to left-center field, Trejo proceeded to hit only his sixth homer in three seasons to seal a 8-7 victory,

6/25/23 Thrilling victory doesn't mask Yankees' biggest fear. There was no over-stating the drama of the Yankees' 1-0 squeaker against the Rangers on Saturday. It was as exciting as regular season baseball gets – the outcome was in doubt until Ron Marinaccio's final pitch to Marcus Semien. Not even Rob Manfred could've spoiled the afternoon. Only, not what Yankees fans were expecting to hear.

6/24/23 Marinaccio, Holmes escape trouble, Yankees beat Rangers 1-0 on McKinney homer. Ron Marinaccio retired Marcus Semien on a game-ending popup with two on in the ninth inning, Clay Holmes stranded a pair of runners in the eighth and the New York Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 1-0 after Aaron Judge said he isn’t close to returning from an injured right toe. Billy McKinney hit his fourth homer since he was brought up two weeks ago to replace Judge, who said before the game he has a torn ligament in his toe that causes pain. McKinney hit a fourth-inning drive off Jon Gray. Luis Severino allowed five hits in six innings.

6/08/23 Yankees 3, White Sox 0: Brilliance from Randy Vásquez helps avoid sweep. After a harrowing starting pitching experience in the first game of the doubleheader, the Yankees needed rookie Randy Vásquez to step up in a big way. The 24-year-old righty rose to the task, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings in just his second big league start. Ron Marinaccio was nails coming out of the bullpen while home runs from Gleyber Torres and Billy McKinney proved just enough to secure the 3-0 victory and avoid a sweep at the hands of the White Sox. The malaise which characterized the Yankees' offensive efforts for much of the first two games of the series returned in the open to the finale.

5/20/23 Ron Marinaccio's mechanics aren't quite right. Ron Marinaccio started the month of May strong after a stellar April. My colleagues have discussed the fan base's trust in Marinaccio and some of the concerning problems in his numbers. Here though, I'm going to focus on his mechanics, pitch shape, and the struggle to use his sweeper effectively. Marinaccio gave up four earned runs in 0.2 innings total during consecutive appearances against the Rays on May 11th and 13th, and he imploded on May 16, giving up three runs to the Blue Jays in an inning of work.

4/07/23 With bat and glove, Urías leads Orioles over Yankees 7-6. Ramón Urías hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, then made a sparkling play at third base in the eighth to help Baltimore outlast the New York Yankees 7-6 in the Orioles’ home opener. Ron Marinaccio allowed a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh to Ryan Mountcastle, who stole second when Gunnar Henderson took a called third strike. Jimmy Cordero then took the mound and threw a wild pitch before allowing Urías’ double to left-center that made it 6-5. Urías later scored on Cordero’s second wild pitch of the inning. After New York pulled back within a run in the eighth, Urías fielded a hard grounder for a 5-3 double play.

3/20/23 Yankees' Ron Marinaccio reflects on rookie season, journey from Toms River to big leaguer. Yankees right-hander Ron Marinaccio still gets chills thinking about it. What would the kid that was once shining in Toms River Little League — dreaming of someday pitching in pinstripes at Yankee Stadium — think if he could see himself now? “It wasn't until far into my Triple-A season in 2021 that I even thought about the idea of being called up just because it seemed so far away when that year started,” Marinaccio told NJ Advance Media on Sunday. Marinaccio was one of the best relievers in baseball for a stretch last summer, allowing only one earned run in 27.1 innings in a three-month span.

3/16/23 Yankees 2023 Season Preview: Ron Marinaccio. It was a tale of two halves for the Yankees' bullpen last season. Up to the All-Star break, Yankees' relievers ranked second in the majors in WAR (4.5) and ERA (2.89) while leading the league in FIP (3.05). On the other hand, Ron Marinaccio represented something of an exception: he was good to begin with and just kept getting better.
