5/23/25 | Astros Star Pitcher 'Still Has a Ways To Go' in His Recovery. The tale of starting pitching injuries continues for the Houston Astros. Ronel Blanco has now been moved to the injured list and will seek a second opinion on his elbow injury, something that is eerily similar to what happened with Hayden Wesneski who will now undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. The Astros will have to hope their healthy starters and options on the farm can step up and produce while they wait for others to return. 5/21/25 | More Pitching Concerns Pop Up For Astros as Ronel Blanco Gets Elbow Evaluated. The Houston Astros could be bracing for the latest and most devastating blow to their starting rotation. According to a report from Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle, Astros star right-handed pitcher Ronel Blanco reported elbow soreness two days ago and was sent back to Houston in order to be evaluated by team doctors on Wednesday. Coming off a start this past Saturday against the Texas Rangers, there was not much to be concerned about after Blanco tossed 92 pitches and six innings, allowing six hits and three runs. As pointed out by MLB Trade Rumors, however, Blanco's velocity has started to dip -- albeit very slightly -- from its peak at 94.3 mph back down to 93.0 and 92.8 over his last two starts. The Houston Astros have been good enough offensively for one inning over the past two games, allowing them to pull even at the midway point of their four-game series with the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas. Game 3 between the Lone Star State rivals on Saturday night will feature surging right-handers, with Houston's Ronel Blanco (3-3, 4.04 ERA) taking the mound against Texas' Tyler Mahle (4-1, 1.47). 5/11/25 | Astros' battery delivers in rubber-game shutout of Reds. May 11 - Ronel Blanco twirled eight impressive innings and Yainer Diaz clubbed a three-run home run as the Houston Astros claimed the rubber match of their three-game interleague series against the visiting Cincinnati Reds with a 6-0 victory on Sunday. Blanco (3-3) produced his best start of the season, allowing just two hits and one walk while recording a career-high 11 strikeouts.
