2/18/24 Dodgers' Miguel Vargas trying to find his way back after bad year. Miguel Vargas experienced something for the first time last year – failure. “I never struggled with my hitting before,” said Vargas, the Dodgers' top prospect going into spring training a year ago. Vargas struggled mightily, batting just .195 with a .672 OPS after batting .310 as a minor-leaguer and earning high marks for his 'hit tool.' Handed the job as the starting second baseman in spring training, he had it taken away at the All-Star break when the Dodgers sent him back to Triple-A. He spent the rest of the year there.

1/20/24 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Player Reviews: Miguel Vargas. Miguel Vargas opened the 2023 season as the starting second baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after some lackluster results in his rookie campaign. Trouble began in Spring Training, when Vargas suffered a fracture to his left pinky finger, which hindered his ability to take swings for a brief stretch. The Dodgers instructed Vargas to take at-bats during Cactus League games as a means of helping him further hone his eye for the strike zone. It turned out to be a move that garnered some positive results from an on-base percentage standpoint.

11/30/23 Baseball insider believes Dodgers could part ways with top hitting prospect.. Could the Dodgers Part With a Top Hitting Prospect This Offseason? Is this the last we see of him? Author: Kevin Skinner Publish date: Nov 30, 2023 9:36 PM EST In this story: Los Angeles Dodgers Your Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the most highly regarded farm systems in all of baseball. However, a perennial World Series contender cannot always allow for a long runway for rookies. At the beginning of the 2023 season, the Dodgers made it known the Dodgers were giving Miguel Vargas a long leash. They needed to see if Vargas could hold up as the team's everyday second baseman. Unfortunately, Vargas did not meet expectations in the first half of the year. The team sent him back down to the

11/23/23 2023 Dodgers in review: Miguel Vargas. Such was the case in 2023 for Miguel Vargas, the Dodgers' opening day starter at second base who was sent down to the minors at the All-Star break and never made his way back to the majors this season. After an impressive age-22 season in Triple-A and making his major league debut in 2022, Vargas was anointed as the Dodgers starting second baseman before spring training began in 2023. Vargas' bat is his strength, and it was just going to a matter of where he might play defensively.

After consecutive seasons batting above .300 in the minor leagues, all signs pointed to the 23-year-old being ready to play in the big leagues. His 18 appearances in 2022 weren't out of this world, but they were promising. 7/17/23 Dodgers minors: Miguel Vargas, Luis Rodriguez, Devin Mann. Dodgers minor league affiliates won two of four games on Sunday, including one crazy comeback. Rancho Cucamonga center fielder Luis Rodriguez had three run-scoring hits, in the middle of the Quakes' frantic comeback effort on Sunday. Rodriguez had an RBI double in the second inning, then RBI singles in the sixth and ninth innings. It capped off a stellar weekend series for the 20-year-old Rodriguez, with 11 hits in 16 at-bats and seven RBI in three games against Modesto.

7/16/23 Dave Roberts: Dodgers Remain Confident In Miguel Vargas. The Los Angeles Dodgers remained active during the All-Star break in terms of roster movement as Miguel Vargas was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Manager Dave Roberts hinted at the possibility earlier this month as the 23-year-old has been mired in a season-long offensive slump. Vargas is batting .197/.302/.370 with 15 doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 32 RBI in 81 games this year. For his part, Vargas recently said he had not lost confidence at the plate and believed a turnaround would eventually come.

7/16/23 Dodgers notes: Miguel Vargas, Jake Marisnick, trade deadline needs. The Dodgers had high faith in Miguel Vargas' capability of being the starting second baseman for the team to start the season. After a mediocre first two months at the plate for the 23-year-old, Vargas slumped in June and the first half of July, leading to his demotion ahead of the second half of the season. While Vargas' slashline is uninspiring through 81 games (.195/.305/.367, 80 OPS+ in 304 PA), manager Dave Roberts has expressed optimism in the rookie, as he believes that this is the proper decision to improve Vargas' hitting development. It remains unclear as to when the Dodgers will promote Vargas again, however the offensive production at second base will receive an automatic boost with Mookie Betts and the recently activated Chris Taylor receiving the majority of playing time.

7/14/23 Dodgers mailbag: Mookie Betts' versatility, MLB trade deadline, LA payroll. Do you think the Dodgers will (or try to) acquire a player(s) by the deadline that can play SS and/or 2B that would be the primary starter at either/both of those positions, or do you think they just stick with the rotation of Rojas, Vargas, and Betts? This question was asked before Miguel Vargas was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday, but it's unlikely he's banished to the minors for the rest of the season and could still very well factor into the middle infield mix if he turns things around offensively. At the trade deadline I think the Dodgers need a starter-quality bat, preferably that hits right-handed. If that happens to be a middle infielder, great.

7/10/23 Dodgers option rookie infielder Miguel Vargas in midst of slump. The Dodgers have optioned rookie infielder Miguel Vargas to the minor leagues as he struggles through a lengthy slump. Despite a promising start to the season for the 23-year-old Cuba native, Vargas has struggled for the vast majority of the year, sporting a lowly .195 batting average in 81 games. Early performance showed a lot of promise, as Vargas excelled at drawing walks and getting on base, however, the latest stretch of the season (.079 batting average in 23 games) was enough for the Dodgers to send him back to the minors in order to get back on track.
