5/16/23 Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis falls out of top 100 prospect list. A fresh version of MLB's top 100 prospects list came out on Monday, but unfortunately one of the Cubs' top prospects Brennen Davis completely fell off the list. Formerly holding the number 83 spot, a recent slump has seen Davis not only booted from the top 100 list but also slide down to number 7 among Cubs' prospects. In 30 games for Triple-A Iowa, Davis owns 3 home runs, 2 doubles, a .196 batting average, and a wRC+ of just 86 (league average is 100). In 2021, Davis worked his way from A+ South Bend to AAA Iowa over the course of the season while smacking 19 home runs and driving in 53.

4/25/23 Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis heating up with Triple-A Iowa. It was a slow start to the season for Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis with the Iowa Cubs in Triple-A but he has flashed signs of returning to his top prospect form. Over the course of the last 7 games, Davis appears to be inching closer toward the offensive success that made him a top prospect in the Cubs' farm system prior to the start of the 2022 season. Davis is considered to be the third-best prospect in the Cubs' system according to MLB Pipeline and of the team's top five prospects, the outfielder may be the closest to reaching the Major League level. Davis is now in an interesting position when it comes to his future with the Cubs' organization.

Throughout spring training, Chicago Cubs President Jed Hoyer and manager David Ross reiterated that the team would need more than just the 26 players on the opening-day roster to contribute over the course of the season. As the minor-league season gets underway, the Cubs believe their farm system — rated between No. 10 and 16 in baseball by publications — continues to take steps in producing the type of big-league talent the organization needs to build a sustaining, winning team. “We're not satisfied, we're still hungry,” vice president of player development Jared Banner told the Tribune.

2/28/23 New MLB pitch clock appears to work, shaves 20 minutes from early games. By the time Cubs outfielder Brennen Davis actually saw a pitch from Arizona's Joe Mantiply, the count was already at a ball and a strike. Both the hitter and pitcher were penalized at the start of Davis' at-bat to lead off the top of the third inning of Monday's spring training game, the latest odd twist in baseball's speed-up rules. After Mantiply entered the game as a reliever, he took too long to throw his warmup pitches; then Davis was too slow to get ready for the pitch. Major League Baseball approved its first pitch clock this season, and every day is a new experience for the players as they try to get used to them this spring.

2/17/23 Chicago Cubs Spring Training: Brennen Davis finding best version of self. In an alternate universe, Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Brennen Davis would have already made his Major League debut and would be entering a 2023 season with the expectation of breaking out in his first full season at the Major League level. Davis, until the breakout season from Pete Crow-Armstrong, has long been considered to be the top prospect in the Cubs organization. The expectation in 2022 was that Davis would start the season with Triple-A Iowa before reaching the Major League level at some point during the second half of the season.

1/30/23 Three Cubs make The Athletic's Top 100 prospects list. These are the same three players who made the lists by MLB Pipeline and Baseball America earlier this month, but unlike those two lists, Law has all three players among his top 50. Crow-Armstrong was ranked 26th, Alcántara was ranked 29th and Brennen Davis was ranked as the 50th-best prospect in baseball. Law admits that he ranks players based more on upside, although he does take “certainty,” as he calls it, into consideration.
