5/14/24 Overmatched, undermanned SF Giants lose 5th in a row to mighty Dodgers. The Dodgers brought their $300 million behemoth to Oracle Park and needed only the first two games to secure a series win. Another strong contingent of fans in Dodger blue watched Tuesday for a second straight night as their team vanquished the home squad, whose good-luck threads still weren't enough to overcome its undermanned and overmatched roster. Technically it was the Giants who lost, 10-2, but it might as well have been the Triple-A River Cats. It was just on May 1, after all, that Marco Luciano and Blake Sabol and Luis Matos and Casey Schmitt and Brett Wisely and Jakson Reetz made up two-thirds of Sacramento's batting order.

3/27/24 'Pat the Bat' Burrell returns home on Giants coaching staff. If Marco Luciano, Luis Matos and the rest of the Giants' young hitters break out this season, a new – but familiar – face in the clubhouse will be a big reason why. “Pat the Bat” is back with the Giants for the latest chapter in his charmed Bay Area baseball life. Pat Burrell joined new manager Bob Melvin's coaching staff as a hitting instructor, 29 years after helping San Jose's Bellarmine High win the West Catholic Athletic League title, 14 years after helping spark the Giants' breakthrough World Series run, and four years after he got his coaching start as a roving hitting instructor in the team's minor league ranks.

3/04/24 This SF Giants prospect's hype train might be falling off the tracks.

What does Marco Luciano's immediate Giants future look like?

2/29/24 SF Giants-D'backs: Jung Hoo Lee's hot start continues with first homer; Luciano's first impression not so strong. When the Giants began spring training, manager Bob Melvin said nothing would be handed to Marco Luciano, their top position-player prospect and presumed shortstop-in-waiting, and the 22-year-old didn't make the best first impression. Delayed by a tight hamstring, Luciano debuted behind Logan Webb on Thursday, meaning he would quickly be put to the test with the majors' top ground-ball pitcher on the mound. Given an opportunity to get his pitcher out of a long first inning, Luciano threw wide of first base, prolonging the frame and allowing a run to score. “We lost the game because we had two situational at-bats where we didn't get a run in and (Luciano) threw a ball away and made an error,” a frustrated Melvin said after the 2-1 exhibition loss to the D'backs.

2/20/24 SF Giants don't plan to hand shortstop job to Marco Luciano. Marco Luciano needed no translation to answer this question. The 22-year-old, one of the San Francisco Giants' most anticipated prospects since he signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2018, is no stranger to major-league spring training. After the departure of Brandon Crawford, the shortstop job is Luciano's for the taking. Does Luciano believe he's ready to seize it for the next decade and beyond?

1/31/24 Marco Luciano and the search for consistency. When Bobby Evans signed Marco Luciano, I'm certain he never thought that this player would make or break his successor. Yes, the San Francisco Giants will probably make it into the postseason again, we just don't know how or when. Marco Luciano is the position player prospect they need at the exact moment they need him. Hiring Bob Melvin and the components of the A's active development coaching staff seems like a good start.

12/20/23 Community Prospect List No. 3. We're two chapters into the 2024 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List, in which we'll work as a group to rank the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization. So far everything is exactly as would be predicted: just as it was last year, shortstop Marco Luciano has been voted as the No. 2 prospect in the system. Luciano's 2023 got off to a slow start, as injuries delayed his season debut until early May. But once it got going, it got going in a hurry. He started the year by making his AA debut with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, and only stayed there for two months, hitting .228/.339/.451 (115 wRC+), with 11 home runs in 242 plate appearances, while being 2.7 years younger

12/13/23 San Francisco Giants Top 10 Prospects For 2024 Fantasy Baseball. 1. SS Marco Luciano | 22 | MLB | 2023 Luciano was rushed to the majors despite struggling at most stops along the way, and Farhan Zaidi has said he’ll have a chance to open 2024 as the starting shortstop despite hitting .209 with a 35.9 percent strikeout rate in 18 Triple-A games and .231 with a 37.8 percent strikeout rate in his 14-game September stint. If he does get that job, he’s going to have some rough patches. Like a lot of players who signed just before 2020, he hasn’t really played all that much and retains some hidden topside as he settles in at the highest level.

11/26/23 Player Review: Marco Luciano. The minor leagues are less about season long averages and more about potential. Marco Luciano can do a lot. The young shortstop was touted as the marquee prospect driving San Francisco's revival on the international scene. When he arrived in the United States from the Dominican Republic, Luciano set a goal for himself that he wanted to make it to the Major League level in three years.

11/22/23 Giants must have shortstop backup plan after committing to Luciano. The 2023 MLB season, as frustrating as it was for the Giants at the major league level, was one of the franchise's greatest seasons for player development. One of the many rookies who reached the big leagues was top prospect Marco Luciano. The shortstop signed with the Giants for $2.6 million as a 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic in 2016 and had been San Francisco's No. 1 prospect for years before being overtaken by left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison in some rankings. Luciano began the 2023 season in Double-A and was promoted to Triple-A in mid-July before making his major league debut with the Giants on July 26.

10/14/23 [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Report: Giants, A's discussed Luciano-for-Murphy trade last offseason. After the to the Atlanta Braves last December, the Gold Glove catcher went on to enjoy plenty of success in the National League and made in 2023. There’s no telling if he would have played as well with the Giants in San Francisco, but it reportedly almost became a reality. The Giants were “involved to the end” with the A’s , The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly reported in his column Friday. San Francisco was willing to send infield prospect Marco Luciano in the deal, per Baggarly, but Oakland wanted Giants pitching phenom Kyle Harrison. Ultimately, the A’s sent Murphy to the Braves as part of a three-team trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Dec. 12, 2022. Oakland acquired right-handed pitching prospects Freddy Tarnok and Royber Salinas, left-hander Kyle Muller and veteran catcher Manny Piña from Atlanta as well as Brewers outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz in the trade while also trading right-hander Joel Payamps to Milwaukee. After the blockbuster, the Braves signed Murphy to . He rewarded Atlanta for its generosity this season, with 21 home runs and a .843 OPS that helped the Braves reach the 2023 MLB playoffs. The Giants, who struggled mightily at the plate in a disappointing 2023 campaign, certainly could have benefitted from such fire power behind the dish for them this season. But rookie catcher Patrick Bailey widely is viewed as one of the best young defenders in the game, with flashes of above-average offensive potential, and San Francisco has made it clear they view Luciano as their after he debuted in July. And Harrison, who made his debut in August, looks poised to sit atop the Giants’ rotation for quite some time. The trade Oakland did pull off for Murphy bore some fruit, as speedy rookie Ruiz made his mark on the A’s franchise this season after for most stolen bases in a season. While it’s fun to imagine the “what ifs” of Murphy in the Orange and Black, the past is in the past. Now, the Giants are looking ahead to their biggest offseason yet, where a new manager and MLB’s biggest free-agent target of all time await.

9/23/23 Latest crop of SF Giants call-ups give them two attributes they have sorely lacked. The Giants don't do either, and in all likelihood they will be sitting at home this October. In two games since being called up, Marco Luciano has collected three hits, and each one has left the bat at 105 mph or more. Of the Giants' four hardest-hit balls the past two games, three have come off the bat of Luciano, including a 111.8 mph single up the middle for his second hit Friday night. “We don't have guys who hit the ball that hard very often,” manager Gabe Kapler said.

9/21/23 Giants call up Marco Luciano, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Tristan Beck. With just 10 games remaining in the season and their postseason odds looking slimmer than the chances of Tim Lincecum getting a hit in an 0-2 count, the San Francisco Giants are pivoting to more youth. The team made a ton of moves on Thursday, ahead of their four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team called up three rookies: shortstop Marco Luciano, utility player Tyler Fitzgerald, and right-handed pitcher Tristan Beck. To make room for those three, right-handed pitcher Sean Hjelle was optioned, shortstop Brandon Crawford — injured during Wednesday's loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks — was placed on the 10-day Injured list, and shortstop Paul DeJong was released.

8/13/23 Giants notes: Marco Luciano strains hamstring, out several weeks. The Giants hoped Marco Luciano could help them down the stretch, but a hamstring injury has put that plan on hold for the foreseeable future.

8/10/23 Minor League round up, 8/9: Bryce Freaking Eldridge!. After speculation (and an erroneous report) that shortstop Marco Luciano (No. 2 CPL) was getting called up after leaving AAA Sacramento's game shortly after A.J. Pollock was injured, it was revealed that Luciano actually suffered an injury himself. The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported the news, saying it's his hamstring.

8/02/23 Minor League round up, 8/1: Kai-Wei Teng and Carson Seymour dominate. The biggest news on the Minors is that AAA Sacramento got a lot more exciting, though not in a way that we wanted, as shortstop Marco Luciano (No. 2 CPL) was optioned after a brief stint in the Majors. Luciano was optioned due to the roster crunching ... given that he's only ever played shortstop in his career, it was hard for Luciano to have a spot on a team with Brandon Crawford (a lefty shortstop) and Casey Schmitt (No. 3 CPL) and Isan Díaz (who both play all over the infield), especially with Thairo Estrada likely returning this weekend.

8/01/23 Phenom Marco Luciano's rise to SF Giants: 'They'll be talking about him as they do now with Shohei Ohtani'. Those who saw Marco Luciano play at the lowest level of the minor leagues have the same observations as those watching him now as the San Francisco Giants shortstop and, at 21, one of the youngest players in the big leagues. “I would say 10 years from now they'll be talking about him in the same context as they do now with Shohei Ohtani,” said Dennis Pelfrey, manager of the Giants' Double-A affiliate in Richmond, where Luciano played for three months before a promotion in mid-July.

7/28/23 SF Giants' waste solid start from Webb, Luciano's first hit in loss to Red Sox. The Giants' offense appeared to wake up Wednesday, and the club should have been well-rested Friday after a long-awaited day off. Rookie shortstop Marco Luciano recorded his first hit and scored his first run of his career, and Joc Pederson smashed a late solo shot, but the Giants didn't manage much else Friday night to back up a bounce-back start from Logan Webb in a 3-2 loss to the Red Sox, who ran their winning streak to five games. Pederson's home run in the eighth, his 11th of the season, should have tied the score at 2.
