5/14/24 Dodgers' Rivalry With Giants Provides 'Always Intense Games'. The Los Angeles Dodgers renewed their rivalry with the San Francisco Giants on Monday and came from behind to earn a 6-4 win in 10 innings at Oracle Park. The Dodgers took an early lead but quickly relinquished it when Luis Matos hit a three-run homer off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the second inning. L.A. would eventually tie things up before the Giants reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Dodgers quickly tied the score in the seventh and never looked back from there.

4/08/24 Could San Francisco Giants Really Consider Trading Top Veteran Outfielder?. Could San Francisco Giants Really Consider Trading Top Veteran Outfielder? The San Francisco Giants could soon have their hand forced by an up and coming slugging prospect. Author: Kade Kistner Apr 08, 2024 In this story: San Francisco Giants Luis Matos Mike Yastrzemski The San Francisco Giants are off to a fairly cold start in the scorching hot National League West. After the additions of Blake Snell, Matt Chapman and Jordan Hicks in MLB free agency, the expectations are high for the 2023 MLB season. But a 4-6 start to the year is far from what the front office, players and fans expected. Especially, when trying to chase down the Los Angeles Dodgers . It also does not help that Michael Conforto

3/29/24 Giants notes: Matos, Teng join team; Cobb's return is close. Before the 2024 MLB season opener Thursday, Giants manager Bob Melvin said his conversation with Luis Matos was the toughest one he had as the roster was finalized. A day later, Matos arrived back in the big leagues. With Mike Yastrzemski on the paternity list and Luke Jackson on the IL, the Giants brought Matos and right-hander Kai-Wei Teng down from Sacramento. The Matos move was expected, although the Teng addition was an emergency addition.

3/15/24 Kurtenbach: Red-hot Luis Matos should be the SF Giants' Opening Day right fielder. It's a ridiculous that he won't be. Luis Matos deserves to be the Giants' Opening Day right fielder this season. He, at the very least, deserves to make the Giants' big-league roster to start the season. But I don't expect either of those things to happen by the time the Giants break camp in Arizona next week. And if that prediction comes to pass, the Giants are making a mistake. Matos, once the Giants' No. 4 overall prospect, is ripping up the Cactus League. In his 31 at-bats going into Friday, he had nine runs, nine hits, seven RBI, three home runs, and was slashing .290/.371/.742. Sure, it's a small sample size, but those are big, big numbers. Lineup-changing numbers, even with an inevitable drop-off. And it's not luck that

12/02/23 Player Review: Luis Matos. Over his first 11 plate appearances in his Major League career, Luis Matos swung-and-missed at a pitch out of the zone once. Fangraphs' quality of contact scale from Soft%, Medium% and High% isn't a measurement based exclusively on exit velocity but “the amount of authority” a batter hits a ball judged by hang-time, trajectory, and its eventual landing spot.

8/06/23 A's fans make themselves heard against Giants before largest home crowd of the season. It got quiet when Luis Matos stepped into the batter's box for the Giants to face A's right-hander Paul Blackburn. Then, in the moments before Matos grounded harmlessly to second baseman Zack Gelof for the first out of the fifth inning, the chanting began. It was yet another message to A's owner John Fisher, reviled by the local fan base for letting their beloved franchise fall into disrepair before making a deal to play in a new stadium on the Las Vegas strip. “I don't really hear much out there, but all of a sudden they started chanting and it's like a wave that hits you,” Blackburn said after a 2-1 win over the Giants before a season-high crowd of 37,533.

6/24/23 Matos hits first career HR to lift Giants past Diamondbacks 7-6 for 12th win in 13 games. Luis Matos took a few slow steps toward first base, followed by a pair of quick hops. The Giants' rookie wasn't admiring his first career home run down the left field line so much as he was trying to will it to stay fair. "I knew it had the distance to go out," Matos said through an interpreter. Matos' go-ahead, two-run drive in the sixth inning provided the Giants with their biggest moment as they beat the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 on Saturday for their 12th win in 13 games.

6/19/23 SF Giants' first-round pick Reggie Crawford talks return from Tommy John, two-way plans. The main attraction Monday night at Oracle Park was the home debut of 21-year-old phenom Luis Matos. San Francisco's top pick in 2022, Reggie Crawford, paid a visit to the ballpark he hopes to call home one day. Visiting family who live in the city, Crawford was enjoying an off day from Single-A San Jose, where he recently began attempting to chart his path as the first domestic two-way player to make the majors since Babe Ruth. “Obviously we're at where we're at right now and we're gonna be making strides, but I don't feel like this is a foreign place to me,” Crawford said, wearing a 2007 All-Star Game sweatshirt while standing on the dirt warning track of Oracle Park, coming up on a year since being drafted 30th overall and 20 months post-Tommy John surgery.

6/18/23 Giants sweep Dodgers for seventh straight win. Luis Matos doubled in two runs in a four-run sixth inning as the red-hot San Francisco Giants ran their winning streak to seven games by completing a weekend sweep of the host Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 on Sunday. LaMonte Wade Jr. also drove in two runs, giving him six for the three-game series, and Mike Yastrzemski and Blake Sabol each had two hits and one RBI for the Giants, who passed the Dodgers for second place in the National League West.

6/17/23 MLB's second-youngest position player, Luis Matos shows poise beyond his years vs. Dodgers. Giants manager Gabe Kapler didn't think his 21-year-old rookie outfielder would be shaken by the bright lights of Dodger Stadium. “I didn't know Matos could keep it together like that, to be honest with you,” Kapler said a day later. Matos, the second-youngest position player in MLB, didn't even need to take the bat off his shoulders to make an impression in his introduction to one of baseball's most storied and heated rivalries, with the screams of 49,074 fans on top of him in center field. Matos worked walks in all three of his final plate appearances, including one to lead off the Giants' three-run rally to take the lead in the eighth inning.

6/16/23 What you need to know about SF Giants' newest rookie Luis Matos. In the San Francisco Giants clubhouse, there is one traditional celebration for a rookie's big moment, be it a first hit, a first win, a first home run: an everything shower. “They're getting their mileage out of that,” team president Farhan Zaidi said Thursday on KNBR. The Giants' youth movement has given the clubhouse much to celebrate and Zaidi plenty to be proud of. The most recent and perhaps most exciting example yet came Wednesday, the debut of Luis Matos.

Matos will bat second against the St. Louis Cardinals in the final game of their three-game series. 6/14/23 It's Luis Matos time. Today is one of the most exciting days to be in a Giants fan in recent memory. It is, presumably, the debut of outfield prospect Luis Matos. Just as with Casey Schmitt and Patrick Bailey last month, Matos' debut is coming at the intersection of excellent play and injury opportunity. It just happens to be that both of those things are extra intense in Matos' case.

6/12/23 SF Giants prospect Luis Matos is too hot to stay in Sacramento much longer.

5/22/23 Minor League round up, May 21. Only a 6-inning game due to bad weather (hail, specifically!), but that was plenty enough time for the River Cats offense to do some exciting things ... and their pitchers to do some ugly things. All of the offense came from the top of the lineup, with the first 4 batters combining for all 7 of the team's hits (Sacramento had no walks). Center fielder Luis Matos (No. 4 CPL) had yet another good day, which is a sentence I can copy and paste into almost every Minor League round up this year.
