1/10/24 Player Review: Brett Wisely. The fact that we're talking about Brett Wisely right now is a bit problematic. If you were to go back in time to last January and whisper in the ear of your past self that Brett Wisely would get 130 plate appearances in 2023, you'd probably slump your shoulders and nod numbly in knowing defeat. Chances are Wisely logging nearly 245 defensive innings at second base and nearly 100 in the outfield indicates the San Francisco Giants' season didn't quite go as planned. The plan was Thairo Estrada not fracturing his hand; the plan was to have centerfield not be a black hole of mediocrity indiscriminately pulling veteran and prospect alike into its center; the plan was Brandon Crawford's swan song not to pitch flat; the plan was for most midseason call-ups not to look completely bamboozled by big league pitching; while the plan for Brett Wisely was as a bench bat, late-inning defensive replacement, a spot start against a right-hander to give Estrada a breather, a closer in a blow-out, a quadruple-A player.

4/18/23 After 4-double game, SF Giants call up Brett Wisely to make first MLB start. It's been quite the past 48 hours for Brett Wisely, who arrived on the red eye at about 6 a.m. and was on the lineup card in center field Tuesday night, making his first major-league start. Recalled before Tuesday's game (Matt Beaty was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move), Wisely doubled four times in his last Triple-A game Sunday in Reno, shuttled back to Sacramento, drove to San Francisco and hopped on the only direct flight he could find to Miami. Fortunately, it was a bit easier journey for his Jacksonville-based family, who missed out on his major-league debut on Opening Day due to the Giants' last-minute roster maneuvering and a communication mishap. “I feel like I'm at home again,” Wisely said.

4/17/23 Minor League round up, April 16. Today's a day off for the San Francisco Giants Minor League Baseball affiliates ... but yesterday wasn't! Let's jump into the action. Link to the 2023 McCovey Chronicles Community Prospect List (CPL) All listed positions are the positions played in that game. AAA Sacramento (8-7) Sacramento River Cats beat the Reno Aces ( Diamondbacks ) 17-9 Box score Wow. That is a lot of runs, and there were a lot of absolutely wild performances that went along with all those runs. I'm not even sure where to start, because we almost need to mention every single person in Sacramento's lineup. Let's start with the funniest performance: second baseman Brett Wisely (No. 33 CPL) hit 4-6. Seems normal enough until

4/08/23 Minor League round up, April 6-7. No great performances for the River Cats, but a lot of good ones from a team that had 10 hits, 6 walks, and was hit 4 times, while striking out just 8 times. Shortstop Brett Wisely (No. 33 CPL), who made the Opening Day roster but was optioned after a single game, doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base.

3/30/23 Giants announce Opening Day roster. A few days ago, San Francisco Giants President of Baseball Operations was on a Spring Training broadcast and seemed to reveal the team's plans for the Opening Day roster. Instead, they're replaced by Brett Wisely and the newest member of the organization, Matt Beaty, who was acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Royals a few hours before the game. The Beaty trade seems to have impacted multiple people's roster spots, which created an unfortunate situation: Wisely's parents won't be at his first MLB game, because the Giants informed him on Wednesday night that he wouldn't make the roster, causing his family to cancel their flights.

3/06/23 Versatile, newly acquired Brett Wisely making strong push for SF Giants' roster. As the youngest of seven siblings, Brett Wisely has experience with a little competition. Perhaps, then, that is why Wisely, 23, has been one of the San Francisco Giants' breakout stars of the first week of Cactus League games. Looking to put himself first in line when a middle-infield need arises, whether that is on Opening Day or later on, Wisely has already slugged two home runs in four games, played second base and shortstop, and impressed San Francisco coaches with his “genuine” hard-working attitude. “There's no entitlement there,” manager Gabe Kapler said.

3/02/23 SF Giants notes: Wisely showcases power with his versatility. Brett Wisely hasn't wasted any time building his case to open the season as part of the Giants' still-developing plan in the middle of the infield. This is Wisely's first major-league camp, and he's played both middle infield positions. Manager Gabe Kapler said earlier this spring that he expects Wisely to be primarily a shortstop, though the left-handed hitter played all four infield positions last year in the Rays' minor-league system. The 23-year-old joined the Giants' organization last November when they acquired him in a trade with Tampa Bay for minor-league outfielder Tristan Peters.
