3/08/24 Oscar Colas included in first round of spring training cuts. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol made sure to emphasize that Oscar Colas did nothing wrong after he was among the first roster cuts. “We saw improvements on every facet of his game,” Grifol said Friday morning. Colas, who started last year on the major-league roster, will get an opportunity at Triple-A Charlotte to hone the fundamentals of the game. Grifol said Colas will get the opportunity to play the outfield in the minors.

2/27/24 Spring Training Job Battles: AL Central. Last week, we kicked off our Spring Training Job Battles series with the AL East and NL East . The series continues this week with the AL Central today and the NL Central to follow tomorrow. Note: the number in parenthesis is the player's NFBC ADP since 2/1 Chicago White Sox Right Field: Oscar Colas (668), Dominic Fletcher (698), Gavin Sheets (736), Zach DeLoach (751), Peyton Burdick (undrafted), Kevin Pillar (undrafted) Like most of the White Sox' roster, this is a pretty uninspiring group. Fletcher was acquired via trade from the Diamondbacks in early February and general manager Chris Getz said shortly after that the 26-year-old "has a leg up" in the competition for the right field gig. 9/11/23 White Sox sending Oscar Colas to Charlotte. The White Sox are optioning rookie right fielder Oscar Colas to Triple-A Charlotte and recalling catcher Carlos Perez, a source confirmed to the Sun-Times on Monday. The Sox are also expected to recall right-hander Deivi Garcia from Charlotte. Garcia was claimed off waivers from the Yankees on Aug. 12, and has allowed two earned runs in nine innings covering seven appearances for Charlotte, with 17 strikeouts and six walks. Colas, who won the right fielder's job out of spring training despite no major league experience, has struggled with a .216/.257/.314 hitting line and .571 OPS in 75 games.

8/09/23 White Sox dent Yanks' wild-card hopes. Oscar Colas homered, Elvis Andrus drove in three runs and Mike Clevinger pitched six strong innings to lead the Chicago White Sox past the visiting New York Yankees 9-2 on Wednesday night. Chicago, which claimed the season series from New York 4-2, has won two straight series. The Yankees lost for the third time in four games and fell 5 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the final American League wild card spot.

7/21/23 White Sox want Oscar Colas to turn down the volume. Rookie right fielder Oscar Colas wasn't in the lineup when the White Sox visited the Twins Friday. “We have to dial down on the intensity level,” said Grifol, who started the right-handed hitting Zach Remillard in right field against righty starter Joe Ryan to allow Colas to sit back, gather and observe for a night. Grifol said Colas has the tools and essentials to succeed, but since coming back from Triple A Charlotte, he's batting. “Let the game come to him as opposed to try and do too much,” Grifol said.

7/05/23 White Sox OF Oscar Colas' first game back on bases far from perfect. On his first day back from the minor leagues Tuesday, right fielder Oscar Colas was 1-for-4 with a bunt single in a White Sox loss to the Blue Jays, an uneventful return for the outfielder who had seven homers in his previous seven games at Triple-A Charlotte. Colas has had better days on the bases. On Zach Remillard's routine fly, instead of sprinting around the bases, Colas held up between first and second. “He was the second hitter in that inning and there was a ground ball that led off that inning that he forgot about,” manager Pedro Grifol said before the Sox' scheduled game with the Jays was rained out Wednesday night.

7/04/23 Now 'in a better position,' White Sox recall Colas. The Chicago White Sox recalled top prospect Oscar Colas, 24, from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, confident the Cuban outfielder will perform better than he did at the start of the season after he made the Opening Day roster.

4/23/23 White Sox' Oscar Colas Remains Out vs. Rays Sunday. The Chicago White Sox will conclude their weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays without one of their regular outfielders. Manager Pedro Grifol submitted the lineup card without right fielder Oscar Colas, who will be riding the pine for the second straight game. Colas has just three hits over his past 27 plate appearances for a .125 batting average, with eight strikeouts and no extra-base hits. Although Colas has spent time in center, filling in for Luis Robert Jr, his

4/15/23 Too many walks allowed, but a walk-off winner for the White Sox. Issuing 10 walks and going hitless in nine at-bats with runners in scoring position Saturday put the White Sox on the verge of losing their fourth consecutive game. But it was more than a consolation prize when the Sox's pitchers worked out of several jams, thanks to three double plays that helped limit the Orioles to one hit in 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position. That provided the Sox with enough time to produce three consecutive hits with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 10th inning, capped by a line drive single by rookie Oscar Colas over the head of right fielder Anthony Santander to seize a 7-6 victory. “That was a very important at-bat with a lot of pressure, and

3/31/23 Quench Your Thirst & Buy Some Colas.
*nudges the Fantasy Baseball Buy/Sell, and it doesn't move* "Oh my God, the Fantasy Baseball Buy/Sell is dead!" "I'm not dead, you idiot. I'm hungover. Could you please stop screaming?" "Woo hoo! The Fantasy Baseball Buy/Sell is alive!" "Jesus Christ." So, welcome back to another Fantasy Baseball Buy/Sell, or as I like to call it, "Pick up this player in your league if he's available because he's rostered in less than 50% of leagues, but only if you're carrying a player who is worse than him" and "Trade away this player who is rostered in more than 50% of leagues, but only if you're getting a fair price." You can see why I went with Fantasy Baseball Buy/Sell instead. Our first fantasy baseball lede buy is coming to you straight from a little area of my brain labeled, "Only Think About Wonderful In This Area." What, you don't label parts of your brain? Oh, too bad. I took a seminar on memory at a Ramada Inn in Parsippany, New Jersey, where I learned this. That and don't bite into a donut and put it back on the tray. Those are the only two things I remember from that seminar. So, now it's time to get down to business...Crap, are you thirsty? I feel so parched. Like I just traveled through the desert on camel while smoking a pack of Camels. Just let me get a drink and then we will start up. Inserts seven quarters into a soda machine, while deciding between Jimmy Sprite and this other guy. Finally, I select Oscar Colas. Then, I listen for the clink of the can down the chute, then remove Colas from the slot. Feeling the heft in my hand and I crack him open to the wonderfully pleasant sound of ahhhhh. Sips a little at first, as I go over his minor league numbers: 14 homers in Double-A; two homers in Triple-A in only seven games with a steal; hit .306 in Double-A and .387 in that week in AAA; reads what Itch has to say, "He hit 23 home runs in 127 games across three levels last year, batting above .300 at every stop. Chicago has been tough on hitters the past few seasons, but Colas has enough thump to threaten 20-plus bombs if he gets the gig early, and I'd like to thump Grey with my fist." Wow, what a soda machine this is! Oscar Colas got the job, and I'm all-in on him until we see him actually struggle somewhere, because we have not seen that once. I need Colas everywhere and so should you. Stay thirsty, my friends, and remember, Andrew Benintendi is the un-Colas. Anyway, here's some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:

3/31/23 Pedro Grifol, White Sox aim for two straight vs. Astros. Pedro Grifol, first-year manager for the Chicago White Sox, earned his first career victory on Thursday, stewarding his club through a tense 3-2 victory over the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros by resisting the urge to do too much when decision-making moments arose. Grifol utilizedone pinch-hitter by summoning rookie outfielder Oscar Colas with one out in the top of the seventh inning -- Colas responded with his first career hit -- and made three pitching changes after right-hander Dylan Cease pitched brilliantly into the seventh inning.

3/29/23 White Sox prospect shares emotional moment with mother after making 2023 roster. Getting called up to the big leagues is every young MLB prospect's dream, and Chicago White Sox outfielder Oscar Colas learned he made the team out of spring training. The White Sox posted the moment Colas learned the great news, and he was caught by surprise when a camera was on him after coming out of an office. After hugging a couple teammates and letting them know he will be heading with them to Houston for the season opener against the Astros on Thursday, Luis Robert Jr. told him what he needed to do.

3/18/23 White Sox' Oscar Colas trying to make memories in 2023. These will be memorable days in the life of Oscar Colás, the White Sox' prized outfield prospect. Colas is making a fine impression, batting .300/.317/.475 with two home runs in a team-high 17 Cactus League games while learning every day how the speed of the major league game is different. “Oscar Junior,” Colas said with a proud smile Saturday morning at his locker at Camelback Ranch. Manager Pedro Grifol has made it clear that Colas, who played just seven games at Triple-A after ascending through Class A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham in 2022, has much to learn still, and it figures Colas will have a much broader understanding by September.
