6/17/25 Chicago Cubs Should Pursue Emerging Trade Target After Recent Value Boost. It's no secret that the Chicago Cubs need to address the starting rotation at the MLB trade deadline. Currently, an inadequate rotation and bullpen, which the Cubs intend to prioritize in the trade market, are blocking the road. Chicago did provide encouraging news on Shota Imanaga, who could return to the rotation as soon as the road series against the St. Louis Cardinals later this month.

6/16/25 Pittsburgh Pirates Could Satisfy Chicago Cubs' Pitching Needs at Trade Deadline. There will be much rejoicing when Shota Imanaga re-joins the Chicago Cubs starting rotation, but that won't completely satisfy their need for pitching. Imanaga appears to be close to being activated from the 15-day injured list with a hamstring injury. As good as the Cubs have been this season, their rotation is not playoff ready. Imanaga would certainly start the first game of any playoff series.

6/15/25 A key Shota Imanaga contract trigger may soon put Cubs on the clock. In his first two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Shota Imanaga has quickly emerged as a quasi-ace. After posting a 2.91 ERA in 29 starts last season, Imanaga has a 2.82 ERA through his first 8 starts this season. Imanaga has been sidelined for much of the past month with a hamstring strain, but the latest reports are that he is due back soon. A void has been created in Imanaga's absence, and that holds especially true with Justin Steele out for the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

6/14/25 Cubs' Shota Imanaga takes big step towards injury return for Chicago. Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga took a massive step in the right direction towards his return. In that time, the Cubs have held the fort down and currently sit at 42-28 overall and 4.5 games up on the second-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. Chicago is led by a high-scoring offense that is second in the league in runs per game. Starting pitcher, however, is one of the slight weaknesses on this roster, meaning that Imanaga's return is critical to this team's success.

Shota Imanaga made his first injury rehab start for the Chicago Cubs during a game with the Arizona Complex League Cubs on Monday. 5/31/25 Not everyone is a fan of Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga's long hair. Last year, Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga wowed fans when he took the mound at Wrigley Field for Chicago's home opener before going on to have a stellar season — Imanaga's first in the majors. The pitcher, also known as the “Throwing Philosopher,” went 15-3 for the Cubs in 2024, racking up 174 strikeouts to go along with a 2.91 ERA. In the States, Imanaga soon became a fan favorite not only for how well he pitched, but also for his charisma, sense of humor, and his long, flowing hair. “You're saying I have the best hair?” a laughing Imanaga told NBC News through a translator when asked about his free-flowing locks.

5/30/25 Cubs-Mariners shocking trade pitch sends $108 million 3x All-Star to Chicago. The Chicago Cubs' shopping list at the trade deadline looks fairly uniform: pitching, pitching, and more pitching. Before the season, the Cubs' lineup already looked to be ahead of the pitching staff. But with injuries to Shota Imanaga and Justin Steele, the latter of which was season-ending, the Cubs will be one of the foremost teams looking for high-end talent at the Jul. 31 deadline. Unfortunately, this year's crop of sellers doesn't look to have much starting pitching to give up. That's why one baseball writer believes Chicago could take a leap by attempting a trade for a pitcher whose team currently sits in first place. On Thursday, Zach Pressnell of FanSided named Seattle Mariners starter

5/25/25 Struggles of New Cubs Relievers Creates Massive Problem in Bullpen. It has been a great start to the season for the Chicago Cubs, but there are some looming concerns for the team. Despite being in first place in the NL Central and 10 games over .500, the Cubs have some noticeable issues on their team. The starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries of late with their top two pitchers currently out. While Shota Imanaga will be back this summer, Justin Steele has been lost for the year.
