7/10/25 | WATCH: Thunder scared former Yankees prospect off the mound. A call during a minor league baseball game in Florida caused controversy after the sound of thunder led to a team scoring a run. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, were hosting the Norfolk Tides, the Baltimore Orioles' affiliate, at VyStar Ballpark on Tuesday. With the Jumbo Shrimp down 2-0 and left fielder Jakob Marsee on third base in the bottom of the first inning, Tides pitcher Roansy Contreras, a former Yankees prospect, was in the middle of his windup when lightning struck near the stadium, resulting in a very loud rumble of thunder.
