7/14/25 Sycamore grad Ethan Storm drafted by Rays in 13th round. Ethan Storm called getting drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday a full-circle moment. The Sycamore graduate said he grew up a fan of the Rays and third baseman Evan Longoria, who played with the club from 2008 until 2016. Storm, who pitched for Rock Valley and committed to Oklahoma, said in the 12th round he knew he was about to be selected by the Rays.

6/09/25 Tampa Celebrates Rays Legend Evan Longoria. On June 7, baseball star Evan Longoria signed his final contract: a symbolic one-day deal with Tampa Bay. The team that drafted him in 2006 will add him to their Hall of Fame next year. "You're looking at the person who was the most transformative player we've had by leaps and bounds," said Rays owner Stuart Sternberg to Motorcycle Sports.

6/08/25 Evan Longoria retires from MLB with one last day as a Ray. On Saturday, Tampa Bay Rays legend Evan Longoria signed a one-day contract with the team so when he officially retired from Major League Baseball, he would do it in the same jersey he started in.

6/08/25 My Two Cents: Evan Longoria's Legacy Also Means a Lot to Current Rays Players. After a debut decade of futility, everything changed for Tampa Bay's baseball franchise in 2008. Following 10 straight losing seasons where they never won more than 70 games, they changed names — from Devil Rays to Rays — and changed perceptions. Out of nowhere, they won 97 games to earn their first American League East title, and then beat the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox in the playoffs for their first AL pennant. Evan Longoria was a big reason why.
