11/02/24 SF Giants' Wilmer Flores exercises player option for 2025. Infielder Wilmer Flores has exercised his player option for the 2025 season, the Giants announced on Saturday morning. Flores signed a three-year, $16.5 million extension with San Francisco in September 2022 with a mutual option for 2025. If Flores exercised his opt out, the Giants would've then had a club option for $8.5 million, which they would've likely declined. The 33-year-old is coming off the worst season of his major-league career, posting career lows in batting average (.206), on-base percentage (.277) and slugging percentage (.318) with four homers and 26 RBIs.

10/29/24 San Francisco Giants Fan Favorite Veteran Infielder Faces Easy Opt-Out Decision. The San Francisco Giants are facing the severe need to upgrade across the lineup after missing the postseason for the seventh time in the last eight years while the roster has simply not been good enough as of late. One player who went into the 2024 season looking to take the next step coming off of a career best 2023 was utility infielder Wilmer Flores, but it just didn't really work out for the veteran as he suffered through numerous injuries throughout the season. Flores went from 126 games played in 2023 to just 71 in 2024 with his numbers dropping like a rock as well. From a career best .863 OPS to a career worst .595, Flores was simply a different player this season than he was the previous season as it became apparent that injuries were impacting him.

9/28/24 Blake Snell declines to make final SF Giants start, shifts focus to free agency. With the season winding down, the Giants have allowed a few players head home early. Wilmer Flores, Tom Murphy and Mason Black all weren't going to see the field again this year and have cleaned out had their lockers. In front of Blake Snell's locker, a pile of cardboard moving boxes towered over the 6-foot-4 left-hander as he met with reporters Saturday morning and discussed his decision not to make his final start of the season, his looming opt out and the free agency expected to follow. Snell was scheduled to start the Giants' penultimate game of the season Saturday against the Cardinals but was scratched late Friday night and replaced by Tristan Beck.
