5/14/25 | Former Orioles Top Outfield Prospect Continues Struggles at MLB Level. There are a lot of reason as to why the Baltimore Orioles are struggling to the extent which they are in the 2025 MLB regular season. The offseason additions of Charlie Morton and Kyle Gibson have been disastrous thus far. Shortstop Gunnar Henderson is knocking off the rust after starting the campaign on the injured list, but no one else is following suit. The team's best hitters have been veterans Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/orioles/news/former-orioles... |
5/11/25 | Charlie Morton's Role Change Could Help Orioles in Two Key Areas. For the second time this season, it seems like the Baltimore Orioles have moved Charlie Morton into the bullpen. Knowing something had to change, the Orioles converted him into a reliever, a role he had for three outings before he made a spot start on May 7. Morton didn't allow a hit in two innings pitched, striking out two batters and walking none. While $15 million for a reliever who isn't a closer is certainly not a good allocation of funds, if the veteran can continue to pitch in this manner when coming on in relief, that could be a major benefit for this Orioles team. 4/22/25 | Orioles trade pitch lands Cy Young winner to replace Corbin Burnes. There are a few teams in Major League Baseball that are constantly questioned, and the Baltimore Orioles are one of them. The Orioles found the blueprint to success with their young talent, but if the new ownership isn't willing to give them the contracts they deserve, they shouldn't expect to find too much success over the next decade. For an Orioles team that's good enough to compete in the American League East this season, it's very questionable why the front office didn't make the moves it had to make this winter. Adding Charlie Morton, Tomoyuki Sugano, Tyler O'Neill, and others, there was a feeling that the Orioles needed to do more to compete with the top teams in the American League East. 4/21/25 | Orioles' 24-2 defeat to Reds puts focus on Morton, ailing rotation. The Baltimore Orioles began Sunday with right-hander Charlie Morton making his fifth start since signing a one-year $15-million contract for the sixth club of his 18-season major league career. It ended with position players on the mound for the final two innings of a humbling 24-2 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds that epitomized just how shaky starting pitching has been for Baltimore amid elevated expectations. 4/11/25 | Orioles Could Use Veteran Slugger To Kill Two Birds With One Stone As Trade Piece. In the early going of the 2025 MLB regular season, a few concerns have arisen for the Baltimore Orioles. Covered the Washington Wizards from 2014 to 2016 and the Washington Nationals from 2016 to 2018 for The Washington Post before covering the Los Angeles Dodgers and MLB for the Los Angeles Times from 2018 to 2024. SARASOTA, Fla. -- The state of the 2025 Baltimore Orioles, one of enviable surplus in position-player talent and a potential deficit in the pitching department, was on display in their clubhouse Tuesday afternoon. First, 41-year-old Charlie Morton, the second-oldest player in the majors, was scratched from his Grapefruit League start against the Toronto Blue Jays that evening without an immediate reason, briefly raising concerns that the Orioles' rotation had experienced another setback.
