9/23/24 | Ex-Mets ace lands on injured list...again. The Texas Rangers have placed Max Scherzer on the 15-day injured list with a hamstring injury. The right-hander was on the injured list two other times this season with back and arm issues. “He's battled some things,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said, via the Dallas Morning News. Scherzer, 40, began the season on the injured list and made eight starts between June 23 and July 30 before being sidelined again. Source: https://www.nj.com/sports/2024/09/ex-mets-ace-land... |

9/21/24 | Rangers scratch Scherzer, give Dunning the start. Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer has been scratched from his scheduled start for the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. It wasn't immediately clear why Scherzer was being replaced as the starter by Dane Dunning for the middle game of a series against the AL wild-card-chasing Seattle Mariners. Scherzer (2-4, 3.95 ERA) has made only one start for the Rangers since July 30. Source: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41363265/texas... |
9/19/24 | Ronald Acuna Jr.'s brother continues to help bury Braves with Mets dominance. For a while, it seemed as though the Atlanta Braves had a secure enough hold on the third and final wild card spot in the NL. On Wednesday, they continued their incredible play with a rousing 10-0 win over the Washington Nationals to keep the Braves at bay with a two-game lead. Acquired from the Texas Rangers last year in the Max Scherzer trade, Acuna was only promoted to the Mets' big-league roster on September 14. 9/17/24 | Rangers take on Blue Jays in final homestand as champions. Fresh off losing three of four to the Seattle Mariners, and five of six overall on the road, the Texas Rangers appear to have reached terminal velocity in their descent from which no trip to October to defend their championship awaits. In the interim, with games still left to be played, the club has switched to a six-man rotation to accommodate for the returns of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer and the insertion of Kumar Rocker. Expect that trio to get as much action as possible in the last two weeks of the season, while starters Jon Gray and Tyler Mahle are finished for the season. 9/12/24 | Rocker's debut, deGrom's return highlights series for Rangers in Seattle. At one point, the Seattle Mariners were on top of the world – or, at the very least, on top of the American League West. After a precipitous drop throughout the summer, it was clear that Seattle's rise was a product of smoke and mirrors as they benefited from the poor play of the two Texas teams in the division. Houston righted themselves and eventually overtook Seattle's spot atop the West, while the Rangers haven't been able to change their course toward respectability all season. The pitching staff that Seattle will face this weekend is far different than the one that Texas was sporting just days ago as top pitching prospect Kumar Rocker will make his debut in the opener and former Cy Young winners Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer will each make a return from injury with deGrom set to start in his first game since last April and Scherzer returning for his first outing since the end of July. 9/05/24 | 4 Athletics' early free agent targets in 2024 MLB offseason. With the 2024 MLB offseason approaching, the Oakland Athletics, soon to be The Athletics, are in the middle of an ugly rebuild and have been at the bottom of the league since their last postseason appearance in 2019. For a team that lacks depth in the rotation and overall veteran leadership, four men can turn this team around: Max Scherzer, Ryan Pressly, Robbie Ray, and Juan Soto. Here's a closer look at these four potential early free-agent targets that could substantially impact the A's. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/athletics-free-agent-targ... |
9/04/24 | Mets called top landing spot for projected $288 million free agent. The New York Mets have good reason to be wary of signing veteran pitchers to major contracts after adding both Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander proved to be a major misstep last season. “It's worth reiterating that all we're doing here is speculating, but the thing about the Mets is that they check every box as a prospective suitor for Burnes,” Rymer wrote. 9/03/24 | 'It doesn't sound that difficult, right?' How the Rangers became latest defending champ to fall short of repeat. Jesse joined ESPN Chicago in September 2009 and covers MLB for ESPN.com. The Texas Rangers had a plan going into the season: Stay afloat during the first half until internal reinforcements arrived in the form of injured players such as Max Scherzer, Josh Jung and eventually Jacob deGrom. Entering the final week of July, the defending World Series champions felt like they were executing that plan even if their record didn't show it. The Rangers were starting to get healthy and were within striking distance of the division-leading Houston Astros in the AL West race. Source: https://insider.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41083351/m... |
9/02/24 | Texas Rangers' Max Scherzer Headed To Las Vegas For Rehab Start. Max Scherzer is heading for Las Vegas to make a rehab start with the Triple-A Round Rock Express on Saturday. Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Monday before their series opener with the New York Yankees. Scherzer threw a live batting practice session before the game, with two up/downs and tossed about 45 pitches. Barring any final setbacks, Scherzer may have one more light throwing session at mid-week before traveling with the Express to face the Aviators.
