4/29/23 Mexico City baseball an explosion colors and home runs for Giants, Padres. With the colorful luchador masks dotting the sold-out stands, the vendors hawking cervezas and the mariachi band that serenaded a captivated crowd between the second and third innings, there was no mistaking where the San Francisco Giants were playing baseball Saturday afternoon. “You can see anything from cowboy hats to gorilla outfits to big blowup heads that guys are wearing, little maraca-type noisemakers, there's all these things that you can find, especially out here in Mexico,” said Sergio Romo, the former Giants closer of Mexican heritage serving as a crowd-favorite ambassador on this trip (who was swarmed by fans at every turn and estimated he signed about “two hours worth” of autographs). With the Giants the designated visiting team — and 16-11 losers in a home run marathon against the San Diego Padres — there was also no mistaking the rooting preferences of at least three-quarters of the fans, giving loud cheers for the Padres' Latin-loaded lineup and even dispersing a few boos when Giants players appeared on the scoreboard.

4/07/23 Giants Observations: Offense Goes Quiet in Home Opener Loss to Royals. The Giants leaned on nostalgia before their home opener at Oracle Park, having longtime clubhouse manager Mike Murphy throw out the ceremonial first pitch and Sergio Romo yell "play ball!" into a mic to fire up the fans. As they did in their first, third and fifth games, the Giants came out flat offensively.

3/29/23 Wanna feel old? 10 dates in Giants history. The other night, in a — and I hate to use an adverb here but I need to in this case — staggeringly emotional evening, the San Francisco Giants gave Sergio Romo a chance to pitch in front of fans one last time. Quite a lot has happened in the last 15 years, and if you're an older Giants fan like me, the passage of time might've snuck up on you. The second game Barry Bonds sat out in his debut season with the Giants (a 5-1 loss to the Rockies; Armando Reynoso pitched a complete game).

3/27/23 SF Giants' Romo prepares for emotional farewell at Oracle Park: 'It's just my time'. It's been a while since Sergio Romo felt butterflies in his stomach before a baseball game. “I can't tell you the last time I was nervous about doing something baseball-wise and especially getting on the mound and being able to compete,” Romo said Sunday in the visitors' clubhouse at the Coliseum. Romo will pitch in a big-league park – and appear in a game for the Giants – for the final time Monday when the San Francisco finishes off a two-game exhibition series with the Oakland A's. He'll retire after the game, ending a 15-year MLB career that included nine seasons and three World Series championships with the Giants.

3/26/23 Former UNA standout to pitch for final time with Giants. As the San Francisco Giants wrap up their spring-training schedule on Monday night, Sergio Romo will pitch for the final time in his baseball career. The Giants signed the former North Alabama pitcher on March 18 with the intention of allowing the right-handed reliever to retire in the Orange and Black – not just ceremonially, but with a pitching appearance. “Still trying to wrap my head around how people can genuinely feel that I deserve something like this,” Romo said. Romo started his Major League career with San Francisco in 2008.

3/22/23 Wednesday BP: The Sergio Romo shirt you've been waiting for is here. Drafted by the Giants, Romo spent nine seasons with the team and would be the only one on the current roster (one of only two left in the majors) who was on all three World Series winning teams in the early 2010s. Romo was a fan favorite not only during his time with the team, but even after he left and was playing for other teams. If you're as excited for the Romo's return as we are, we've got just the shirt for you!

3/16/23 SF Giants sign Sergio Romo, give Core Four member 'a chance to close the book'. Before Edwin Diaz and Timmy Trumpet took over the baseball world in 2022, it was another set of horns that were instantly recognizable for Giants fans. When Banda MS' “El Mechón” played over the loudspeakers at Third and King, it meant Sergio Romo had left his post in bullpen, back then still in left-field foul territory, and was on his way to close out another game. Nobody has pitched in more games at Pac Bell, or AT&T, or Oracle Park than Romo's 515 appearances. The Giants signed Romo, 40, to a minor-league deal with an invitation to big-league camp, manager Gabe Kapler confirmed after The Athletic first reported the news.

7/15/22 'Stay Proud, Stay Tough': Blue Jays Hoping Perseverance Pays Off in 2nd Half. In a sense, it can be taken somewhat harder because there's no specific adjustment,” veteran reliever Sergio Romo said. There's not one thing that you can sit there and say, ‘Hey, if we do this a little bit better, this will turn around, or maybe it'll change our luck. 7/09/22 Eugenio Suárez homers in 11th as Mariners top Blue Jays 5-2.

SEATTLE (AP) — It took more than 1,000 career games, but Eugenio Suárez finally got to experience the exhilaration of hitting a game-ending home run.

So, how did it feel?

“I just enjoyed the game and like I always say, I keep my energy even. Even if I didn’t do something, I just try to keep my energy and enjoy this game. This game is so fun," Suárez said.

Suárez hit a three-run homer off Sergio Romo in the 11th inning, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Friday night for their season-best sixth straight victory.

Suárez didn’t miss on a 2-1 slider from Romo (0-1) and kept it fair down the left field line. It was his 15th home run of the season and improved Seattle to 43-42, the first time the Mariners have been above .500 since they were 12-11 on May 2.

Seattle has won 14 of its past 17.

“Obviously we’re going really well right now,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said. “We all know how baseball goes. It's up and it's down and it’s all over the place. But you have to ride the streak and we're in a good one right now.”

Romo threw just four pitches in his brief outing. The veteran was designated for assignment by Seattle late last month before signing with the Blue Jays.

Former Toronto reliever Ryan Borucki (1-0) picked up the win, pitching the 10th and 11th innings without allowing a run. Borucki got out of the 10th thanks to Matt Chapman lining into a double play. In the 11th, Chapman reached third with one out, but Borucki struck out Cavan Biggio and got a fly out from George Springer.

“I was just in a different world, I felt like. And it was just good to really step up,” Borucki said. “I was telling guys I’ve never felt like this in my life, just the joy of just being able to do what I did...
