11/17/21 Braves among teams showing interest in Justin Verlander, per report. Atlanta already locked up veteran catcher Manny Pina on a two-year deal earlier this week and reports indicate that they are feeling out the starting pitching market. The Athletic’s David O’Brien reports that the Braves are among the teams that have expressed interest in Justin Verlander. Verlander, who sat out the 2021 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, has drawn interest from a variety of teams.

11/16/21 Braves News: Manny Pina signs, Freddie Freeman update and more. Predictably it has been a slow start to the hot stove season although the Atlanta Braves did make a little noise Monday with the signing of veteran catcher Manny Pina who agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal that also contains a club option for 2024. Pina spent the last six seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers and hit a career best 13 home runs in 2021. He will add depth behind starter Travis d’Arnaud who missed a big chunk of the 2021 season with a thumb injury.

9/19/21 Manny Pina has been a surprising power bat for the Brewers. Pina does have a career-high 10.6% barrel rate and 40.6% fly ball rate, and his 17.5-degree average launch angle is among the highest in the league. However, his 28% hard hit rate and 85 MPH average exit velocity are among the lowest. His 40.5% ground ball rate and 13.5% line drive rate are both career-worsts.

9/15/21 Tigers 4, Brewers 1: Relentless team effort earns the sweep. With runners on second and third, Manning nibbled too much, walking Manny Pina to load the bases, but finally got Kolten Wong to ground out to end the threat. That long inning seemed to kick Manning into high gear. He got two quick outs in the third, and then broke out the curveball, stealing strike one on Omar Narvaez.

8/13/21 Pina & Urias Take Hendricks All Along The Dongtower. Burps for five minutes, then sloppily places a lei on a waitress. Unable to resist the primal urges of being drunk and a man, he leans in to kiss the waitress, but, before landing the smackeroo, two bouncers drag him out of the tropical-theme bar and grill. As he's dragged by the elbows, he screams, "Your burgers at Islands suck!" A very somber Eric McCormack enters, and we see it's a PSA. Eric addresses the camera, "This is what happens when you have too Manny Pina's." Yesterday, Manny Pina went 3-for-6, 3 runs, 6 RBIs and his 8th and 9th homer. I'm really starting to come around on the idea presented by a commenter that said instead of drafting a catcher, you draft a team and get that team's catchers. Like drafting a defense in fantasy football. Also, in this game, that was Kyle Hendricks's worst nightmare (4 IP, 9 ER,, ERA at 4.15), Jace Peterson (5-for-5, 3 runs, 4 RBIs) came a triple short of the cycle. Hendricks's previous worst nightmare was getting caught in an elevator with a hungry Daniel Vogelbach. That's every player's worst nightmare. Moving on! The other big star yesterday was Luis Urias (5-for-6, 5 runs, 5 RBIs) hit his 15th and 16th homer, and I just added him to the Buy column coming later today. Pretty goofy that he's only rostered in 30% of leagues. On the Player Rater, Christian Yelich is over two hundred spots lower in value than Luis Urias. Take me to the top of a 100-foot wave in Nazaré, Portugal and throw me into a barrel. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

7/08/21 DeGrom's ERA rises above 1.00 as Mets split with Brewers.

NEW YORK (AP) — His ERA over 1.00 for the first time this season, Jacob deGrom will skip the All-Star Game.

The Mets' ace gave up a pair of solo home runs and got his third straight no-decision as New York beat the Brewers 4-3 on Wednesday in the eight-inning opener of a doubleheader split.

Milwaukee won the second game 5-0 behind two-run homers by Manny Pina and Luis Urías along with Willy Adames' solo shot. Urías homered twice in the doubleheader to raise his total to 12, after he hit none last year.

DeGrom allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks — his seventh start with double-digit strikeouts this season. His ERA has risen from 0.50 to 1.08 in his last three starts.

Mets manager Luis Rojas and deGrom said they were open to deGrom pitching on short rest in Sunday’s first-half finale.

“Being named to an All-Star team is a great honor,” said deGrom, a four-time All-Star. “But I’m going to take that time and just enjoy it with my family, whether I pitch Sunday or not. Get healthy for the second half.”

DeGrom, who threw 85 pitches, said he will adjust his between starts routine — which usually includes two side sessions. If deGrom doesn’t pitch Sunday, he likely would open the second half at Pittsburgh on July 16.

“I think Jake’s mindset is here — he just wants to be with his team and he wants to produce for his team,” Rojas said. “With everything that’s happened this season, I think his mindset is just if he’s going to pitch, he’s going to pitch here.”

The two-time NL Cy Young Award skipped an outing between April 28 and May 9 due to discomfort in his right lat muscle, then did not pitch against until May 25 while spending time on the injured list with what the Mets said was...

5/24/21 Determining why Blake Snell didn't succeed in Monday's start vs. the Brewers. In Milwaukee on Monday in the series opener, Snell couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning, allowing five runs including two home runs by Manny Pina and Avisail Garcia. On the Pina home run, Snell left a 96 MPH fastball down the middle so that was simply just a mistake. But it is important to point out how Snell unraveled in the fourth inning.

4/27/21 Brewers place Manny Pina, Daniel Robertson on Injured List, option Phil Bickford; recall Corey Ray, Patrick Weigel, Luke Maile. The Milwaukee Brewers have made a flurry of roster moves today before game two against the Miami Marlins, placing two players on the Injured List and optioning another and then filling all those vacant spots. Manny Pina is down with a fractured toe, Daniel Robertson hits the concussion IL, and Phil Bickford is sent out to the Alternate Training Site, while Luke Maile, Corey Ray, and Patrick Weigel will join the active roster.

4/24/21 Manny Pina's blast help Brewers beat Cubs. Manny Pina hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run, and the Milwaukee Brewers held on for a 4-3 win over the host Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon. After watching the game from the dugout for two-plus hours, Pina stepped to the plate in the seventh inning to deliver the blast, which was his second of the season. Milwaukee earned its fourth victory in the past five games and evened the series against Chicago at one win apiece.
