3/16/25 | Chris Sale pays tribute to late Red Sox legend with spring training first pitch. Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Sale's return to JetBlue Park on Saturday featured more than just a solid outing on the mound — it included a heartfelt tribute to Boston Red Sox great Luis Tiant. Starting for the Braves against his former team, Sale opened the bottom of the first inning with a deliberate hesitation and turn toward center field before delivering his first pitch to Boston's Jarren Duran. 3/16/25 | Why Chris Sale Paid Homage To Red Sox Icon In Spring Training. Chris Sale prepared a first-class gesture for Saturday's spring training exhibition against his former Boston Red Sox club in honor of an all-time great. The left-hander took the mound and faced Boston's Jarren Duran, and on the first pitch, Sale performed an off-branded windup. To the untrained eye, it would've appeared as though Sale was testing out some preseason mechanics. Source: https://nesn.com/2025/03/why-chris-sale-paid-homag... |
3/15/25 | Chris Sale offers mound tribute to late Red Sox pitching legend. As Chris Sale prepared to throw his first pitch against his former Red Sox teammates Saturday afternoon, there was something obviously different about his delivery. It was all part of a planned tribute to Luis Tiant, who passed away last November at the age of 83. “I kind of had this start circled for a little bit, said Sale, now with the Atlanta Braves, ”just (because of) who Looie was to me and what he meant to me, not only in baseball but in my life. Sale first came up with the idea while talking with his wife, then discussed it with Atlanta's Triple A pitching coach Craig Bjornson, who was the Red Sox' bullpen coach for part of Sale's stay in Boston. 3/15/25 | Former Red Sox Ace Chris Sale Pays Tribute To Boston Legend. Chris Sale might not be wearing a Red Sox uniform anymore, but the legacy of the franchise still lives strong in his heart. The reigning National League Cy Young winner's first pitch emulated Luis Tiant's signature twisting wind-up, which fans immediately recognized. Tiant died at 83 years old in his home in Wells, Maine on Oct. 8 last year. The Red Sox Hall of Famer was a mainstay with the organization in his post-playing years, serving as the team's pitching coach for the former Short-A Lowell Spinners. 3/11/25 | Ex-Red Sox Ace Reflects On Breakthrough Cy Young Award Season. Chris Sale finally got to add some hardware that he could not reach with the Boston Red Sox in his first season with the Atlanta Braves. Boston moved Sale to the Braves for infielder Vaughn Grissom. The change of scenery bode well for the left-hander, who put together a healthy season and drove the Atlanta pitching staff throughout the season. 3/09/25 | Atlanta Braves Lead Majors in Key Stat During Spring Training. The Atlanta Braves continue a trend from last season into Spring Training. As of Sunday morning, the starting pitching leads MLB with a 2.60 ERA . They narrowly edged out the Detroit Tigers (2.70) for the lead. When compared to teams in the National League, it's not a contest. The San Francisco Giants are in second place with a 3.31 ERA over in the Cactus League. Last season, the Braves rotation had the best ERA in the National League (3.58) and were third across all of MLB. Among the Braves starters, Chris Sale and Ian Anderson highlight the rotation in this category. Sale has yet to allow an earned run in six innings pitched. Anderson has allowed one run over eight innings pitched. Along with Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/braves/news/atlanta-braves-... |
3/07/25 | Braves Insider Projects Winners of Depth Rotation Spots. Believe it or not, the Atlanta Braves are about halfway through their Spring Training games. With that in mind, The Athletic's David O'Brien took another stab at predicting what the Braves' 26-man roster will look like for the team's first regular season game. The top three starting rotation spots are already set with Chris Sale, Reynaldo López and Spencer Schwellenbach. O'Brien predicted on March 7 that Grant Holmes and Ian Anderson will join those three in the rotation to begin the 2025 campaign. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/braves/ian-anderson-grant-h... |
3/04/25 | Twins, Braves play to scoreless tie in spring training pitchers' duel. Not a single run was scored in Tuesday afternoon's spring training game between the Minnesota Twins and the Atlanta Braves in North Port, Florida. 11 pitchers combined for 18 scoreless half-innings of work in an exhibition contest that ended in a 0-0 tie. 2024 NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale got the start for Atlanta and threw four no-hit innings, striking out four batters. A Matt Wallner hit-by-pitch and a Harrison Bader walk were the only blemishes on Sale's outing, though it's worth noting that the Twins' lineup did not feature Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, or Royce Lewis. 3/02/25 | Chris Sale responds to Alex Cora's bizarre comparison to Garrett Crochet. The majority of Chris Sale's seven-year tenure with the Red Sox is always going to leave a sour taste in fans' mouths, especially because of what he was able to do as soon as he left Boston. After two fantastic seasons in 2017 and 2018 that made his five-year, $145 million extension seem like a no-brainer, he immediately dropped off in 2019, didn't play in 2020 after getting a controversial Tommy John surgery, and only pitched 151 innings in his last three years due to constant injury. 2/26/25 | Red Sox Infielder Brings Restored 'Confidence' To Spring Training. Vaugh Grissom struggled debuting as a member of the Boston Red Sox in 2024. The 24-year-old joined the organization after Boston's Chris Sale trade with the Atlanta Braves, with high hopes. Grissom had become the odd man out of Atlanta's stacked roster and needed a landing spot that offered room for growth, meanwhile, the Red Sox needed a starting second baseman, making the match seemingly perfect. Moncada, 29, was once one of baseball's most promising young players, so talented that he signed with the Boston Red Sox for a record-shattering $31 million bonus when he first came to the majors from Cuba.
