3/22/24	Blue Jays cut ties with former All-Star infielder. The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that they have granted Eduardo Escobar his release. The veteran infielder signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays roughly one month ago. Manager John Schneider confirmed to reporters that Escobar was informed earlier in the day that he wasn't going to make the team. Last month, Eduardo Escobar signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays and he's spent the spring trying to earn a spot in the crowded Toronto infield. Free agents on minor league deals who have at least six years of MLB service and finished the previous season on a major league deal can opt out at three points during the season if they have not been added to the 40-man roster: five days before Opening Day, May 1 and June 1. Traded at the end of June, more than a month before the deadline, he had an abridged second season with the Mets, and he didn't quite impress in that short sample.
