4/15/24 Ex-SF Giants icon and Cardinals reserve Brandon Crawford saw plenty of games in Oakland as a youth. Brandon Crawford has been to the Coliseum plenty of times, but the vibe was decidedly different Monday night for the St. Louis Cardinals shortstop. It's not certain that Crawford will play at all in the series, given his job as a backup shortstop and mentor for starter Maysn Winn. “It's a tough role, not playing every day and not getting your timing going with the bat,” Crawford said in the visiting dugout a few hours before the game. The series will be the closest thing to a homecoming until the Cardinals visit Oracle Park in the final regular season of the series Sept. 25-27.

4/14/24 Gallen blanks Cardinals for 6 innings and Diamondbacks score 5 runs in 5th to win 5-0. Gallen threw 90 pitches, giving up four hits and walking two. The right-hander caught Brandon Crawford looking on a full count with the bases loaded in the second and then got a grounder to escape the jam. Gallen also whiffed Ivan Herrera on a 3-2 curve in the fourth before retiring Crawford on a popup. St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas faced the minimum through four innings but didn't finish the fifth.

4/05/24 SF Giants fans pine for Renel Brooks-Moon and Brandon Crawford during home opener. Four bases dotted the Oracle Park infield and nine players lined up for the Giants and Padres. The stands teemed with excitement on a perfect San Francisco afternoon as the home fans got their first in-person regular-season look at high-profile free-agent signings. For the first time since 1999, the Renel Brooks-Moon did not announce Opening Day lineups for the San Francisco Giants. Ever since Oracle (then known as Pacific Bell) Park opened in 2000, Brooks-Moon's booming voice was a steady presence for a franchise with four World Series appearances and three championships.

3/12/24 Ahmed looks like Giants' Opening Day shortstop front-runner over Luciano. Brandon Crawford made his St. Louis Cardinals spring training debut Saturday, getting a couple of at-bats in between former NL West rivals Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. Across the country, the spring battle to replace Crawford as the Giants' Opening Day shortstop took another interesting turn. Nick Ahmed started at shortstop against the Athletics and played six innings before giving way to Marco Luciano, who entered camp as the favorite to win the job.

2/27/24 Kurtenbach: The real reason the SF Giants had to move on from Brandon Crawford. A player who hit .194 last season was not re-signed, and apparently, this is treasonous behavior from Giants director of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi. Look, Brandon Crawford is a Giants legend. No one else will ever wear No. 35 for San Francisco again — that's the number for the brilliant fielder who is going to have the plaques and statues outside of Oracle Park. The Giants signed former Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed to a minor-league deal on Monday, too.

2/14/24 SF Giants spring training starts today: Here's everything you need to know. On Wednesday, they'll hold their first workout, with position players set to join them next week — without Brandon Crawford for the first time since 2009. With a change of the guard on the infield and the dugout bench, this camp promises to provide plenty of intrigue. New manager Bob Melvin will be attempting to guide the team back to the postseason for the first time in three years — and vanquish the mighty Dodgers, defending National League champion Diamondbacks and his former Padres in the process. Promptly at 9:30 Wednesday morning, Melvin will appear in the first base dugout of Scottsdale Stadium, take a seat on the metal bench and meet reporters for the ritualistic manager's media session that will repeat hundreds of times over the course of the season.

1/11/24 How All Star Shortstop Brandon Crawford Could Help The Phillies. As the Phillies look for help on the margins to put an already elite team over the top, legendary San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford could be an unusual but perfect fit. Free agent Crawford, who will be 37 on Opening Day, is at the tail end of a stellar career that has seen him win two World Series rings, four Gold Gloves, and a fourth place finish in the 2021 NL MVP balloting as the Giants everyday shortstop for over a decade. 2023 saw a sharp downturn for Crawford, who struggled at the plate and in the field. The Phillies do not need an everyday shortstop, with arguably the game's very best in Trea Turner enshrined there for the next 10 years.
