10/13/24 | Philadelphia Phillies Boss Drops Bombshell About Star Prospect's Role Next Year. There is a lot to reflect on for the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason. One area the Phillies desperately need to improve is their fifth starter role, something that was a complete disaster for them coming down the stretch based on Taijuan Walker putting up the worst season of his career and the other options not being ready to pitch at the Major League level. Philadelphia likely will give Walker another shot based on the $36 million he has remaining on his contract over the next two years, something they alluded to when he was moved into the bullpen. 10/10/24 | Ideal Walker Replacement for Philadelphia Phillies Predicted To Land $50 Million. With the Philadelphia Phillies season now over, they'll have to make a decision on Taijuan Walker. The right-hander still has another two years on his contract, but it wouldn't be the most surprising thing to see the Phillies eat the rest of his deal considering how poorly he's been on the mound during his time with the club. If they were to get rid of Walker, they'd have to replace him. There are options in the farm system, and it's fair to say they should look to give some of those guys an opportunity due to how talented they are, but for a team built to win a World Series right now, finding a veteran arm seems to be the more logical solution at this point. 9/27/24 | Phillies $72 million former All-Star was 'impossibly' bad in 2024, insider says. The Philadelphia Phillies have cakewalked their way to a third straight playoff appearance in 2024. The strength of this Phillies team was the starting rotation, which boasted three All-Stars at the Midsummer Classic. Four of the Philadelphia starters are locks for postseason starts. Former National League All-Star pitcher Taijuan Walker has been almost impossibly bad in 2024, the second year of his four-year, $72 million contract with the Phillies. 9/24/24 | Taijuan Walker struggles, potentially pitching himself out of mop-up spot on playoff roster. Final Score: Cubs 10, Phillies 4 Taijuan Walker has worked very hard to improve his results, and has always been accountable postgame when he struggles. But far too many times this season, some sort of momentum for the Philadelphia Phillies has been completely halted by Walker taking the mound. Tuesday was the latest example of that. 9/23/24 | Some Thoughts After the Phillies Drop Three of Four to the Mets at Citi Field. The Phillies lost three of four to the New York Mets after an abysmal offensive performance on Sunday Night Baseball. A win at any point over these last six games (or a Mets loss) will clinch the first title for the Phillies since 2011. Taijuan Walker probably shouldn't have been out there in the first place on Thursday night. Source: https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/some-thought... |
9/20/24 | Why Rob Thomson didn’t turn to his bullpen sooner in Thursday’s loss. The Phillies’ loss to the Mets on Thursday in New York swung in the early innings. Taijuan Walker had conceded four runs in the opening three frames, but the Phillies had just scored again in the fourth to bring their deficit to a run. In a game that looked like it would get away from […] Source: https://www.philliesnation.com/2024/09/philadelphi... |

Read our editorial standards for more information. Three weeks after getting yanked from the Phillies' starting rotation, Taijuan Walker is back with another shot at redeeming a glum campaign in Thursday's clash with the Mets. Walker is afforded the start after impressing Rob Thomson with the three scoreless relief innings he dealt against the Mets in the 6-4 victory Saturday. I'm not holding my breath: Thomson's hand is forced to lend Walker another look after unsuccessfully trialing three other pitchers in that No. 5 spot with the postseason nearing. 9/17/24 | Taijuan Walker is Back in the Phillies' Starting Rotation. Taijuan Walker will start on Thursday against the New York Mets, Rob Thomson announced on Monday night. The Phillies have struggled to find a consistent 5th starter this season, just like every other team in baseball. Walker struggled immensely when he returned from the IL back at the end of April. Kolby Allard had a few good spot starts, but got rocked in his last outing. Source: https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/taijuan-walk... |

9/09/24 | Not Having a 5th Starter is a Baseball Problem as Much as a Phillies Problem. Can you name me five #5 starters across Major League Baseball, without including the Phillies? The Phillies have a 5th starter problem right now, but they're right there with every team in the league. Taijuan Walker has been a disaster. Tyler Phillips had three good starts before everything went downhill. Source: https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/not-having-a... |
9/08/24 | Phillies get mauled by the Marlins as their latest fifth starter gets shelled. Given their vista from atop the standings, it would be easy for the Phillies to wave off their lack of a passable No. 5 starter as merely a regular-season nuisance. In that case, the Phillies have a real problem every five days. Because when Taijuan Walker, Michael Mercado, Tyler Phillips, and now, Seth Johnson start games, the Phillies usually have no chance. 9/05/24 | Phillies plan to promote pitcher to make big league debut on Sunday. The Philadelphia Phillies demoted Taijuan Walker from the starting rotation last week after losing nine straight games he started, but the move may have been done prematurely. Tyler Phillips was meant to be the short-term answer as a holdover until Kolby Allard could be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh on Sept. 10. Unwilling to give Phillips a chance at redemption, Philadelphia is turning to another option. The team is planning to call up right-hander Seth Johnson to start Sunday's game against Miami, according to Kiley McDaniel of ESPN. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/philadelphia-p... |
9/05/24 | Philadelphia Phillies Reportedly Adding Top Pitching Prospect to Their Rotation. Despite the Philadelphia Phillies' four star starting pitchers putting together strong performances on a consistent basis, there are still some concerns about this rotation because their fifth spot has been a complete disaster in recent months. After starting the year on the injured list, Taijuan Walker has been a shell of himself. This forced the Phillies to finally move him into the bullpen where he likely spends the rest of the season as he continues to work on things to get his form back. 8/31/24 | Phillies' Taijuan Walker wants to make a re-start out of the bullpen. He doesn't seem to know how to break out of what's been a season-long slide, but Taijuan Walker would like to do something about it. Originally signed away from the Mets as a third Phillies starter to a fairly lucrative deal – a four-year, $72 million pact on Dec. 16, 2022 – Walker has declined to the point where not only his current status but his Phillies future is in doubt. Overall in an injury plagued 2024, he is 3-6 with a 6.50 ERA. Amid a six-inning stint in which Walker allowed 13 hits and six earned runs leading to a 10-0 loss to Houston Wednesday, Rob Thomson finally had seen enough, declaring a day later that Walker, 32, would move to the bullpen.
