Always an extremely long shot to make the Opening Day roster, especially once it was clear the Chicago Cubs would not carry three catchers, Jorge Alfaro's brief stint with the organization has come to a close. The Cubs released Alfaro, 30, allowing him to explore opportunities with other teams with the 2024 regular season days from starting. Per Robert Murray of FanSided, Alfaro has signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs but will have the opportunity to make the MLB roster as he received an invite to spring training this year. Alfaro played just one year with the Padres in 2022 but it was a year that fans will never forget as the team made it to its first NLCS since 1998 after eliminating the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
