3/29/24 Cubs sign catcher Curt Casali to minor league deal. 3/26/24 Cubs release veteran backup catcher Jorge Alfaro ahead of Opening Day. Always an extremely long shot to make the Opening Day roster, especially once it was clear the Chicago Cubs would not carry three catchers, Jorge Alfaro's brief stint with the organization has come to a close. The Cubs released Alfaro, 30, allowing him to explore opportunities with other teams with the 2024 regular season days from starting. As Maddie Lee of the Sun-Times notes, Alfaro had the option to opt out of the minor league deal he signed with the club if he didn't get added to Chicago's 40-man, but it's unclear if that's what happened here or if the Cubs simply moved on.

2/07/24 It's the 5th Anniversary of the J.T. Realmuto Trade, which is Already a Top 10 Deal in Phillies Franchise History. The Phillies also sent the Marlins some international bonus money in addition to Sanchez, Alfaro, and  Stewart. Realmuto came to the Phils with two years of club control, declined a ~$19 million qualifying offer in 2020, then ultimately ended up signing a five-year deal worth $115 million. Since the trade, Realmuto has gone to the All Star Game twice, won two Gold Gloves, made the All-MLB First Team twice and Second Team once, earned two Silver Sluggers and backstopped the Phils to a World Series appearance and NLCS. To expand upon the above tweets, Jorge Alfaro played 253 games for Miami, then was traded to the Padres in 2021 for cash considerations.
