Trayce Thompson entered the 2023 season looking to build on a successful end to the previous campaign after unexpectedly returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers and becoming a contributor down the stretch. Thompson began the year by representing Great Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Thompson returned to the Dodgers at the end of Spring Training and was part of a platoon in the outfield. According to Andy Martino, the Mets are one of the top teams in the running to sign Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Yankees are also interested in Yamamoto, and with both teams now big spenders, the bidding war between the two organizations might just be the start of what is to come when big free agents become available. Trayce Thompson and Miguel Vargas both made significant contributions in a 2-1 win for Triple-A Oklahoma City over the Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate) on Thursday. The OKC Dodgers extended their road winning streak to 11 games, which is the longest in the Bricktown era (since 1998). Furthermore, OKC is now a Minor-League best 36-12 on the road this season, and 14-1 in their last 15 games away from home. 7/28/23	Dodgers minors: Dalton Rushing injured, Trayce Thompson stays hot. Dodgers minor league catcher Dalton Rushing was injured in the first inning of Great Lakes' game on Thursday, and was helped off the field. The play was a dropped third strike of Dayton third baseman Austin Callahan, who Rushing retired by throwing to first base. In fielding the return throw, Rushing was splayed awkwardly at home plate while trying to apply the tag, and immediately laid face down on the dirt in obvious pain after the play. The Dodgers outfielder hit two doubles and a home run that was hit over the batter's eye in dead center field. The home run and first double for Thompson were hit off right-hander Peter Solomon, and the second double was hit off left-hander Joe Mantiply. Trayce Thompson was on their Opening Day roster and expected to fill a platoon role, but he continued to have reverse splits. Thompson then suffered a significant left oblique strain in June that is expected to keep him out for multiple months. When I wrote Trayce Thompson's year in review for 2022, I picked that retrospective because his arc was inspirational and reminded me of Ron Howard's somewhat forgotten film, 'Cinderella Man.' Russell Crowe was fine as former heavyweight champ Jim Braddock, but Paul Giamatti was clearly having a ball as Braddock's manager, Joe Gould.
