7/11/25 | ESPN midseason grades: Diamondbacks middle of the road. As the saying goes, “C's get degrees.” But does that apply to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2025? With MLB All-Star weekend closing in, ESPN's David Schoenfield handed out his midseason grades. The D-backs earned a C. One of the biggest reasons behind the middle-of-the-road grade? Arizona's starting pitching woes. After the aggressive move to sign Corbin Burnes, he went down with Tommy John surgery after 11 starts. Meanwhile, Zac Gallen, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt each have an ERA on the wrong side of 5.00. Rodriguez was better in June before a shellacking on July 4, while Gallen remains homer-prone, so it's hard to tell if improvement is on the horizon. 7/08/25 | Can Diamondbacks' Playoff Hopes Survive Amid Bullpen Injuries?. The Arizona Diamondbacks have suffered what appears to be an unprecedented level of major pitching injuries in their franchise history. Despite having the third best offense in the league, the D-backs are 4.5 out of the third NL Wild Card spot with four teams in front of them. The various websites that calculate playoff odds now give the D-backs between a 13% to 21% chance to make the playoffs. While Corbin Burnes going down with Tommy John surgery was a tremendous blow, Ryne Nelson has stepped in to fill that breach and been excellent. 7/08/25 | Brewers Blast Blockbuster Trade Pickup: 'Manager's Pissed'. The Milwaukee Brewers aren't afraid to trade stars away if they don't think they will end up sticking around on deals afterwards. Milwaukee traded Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles last year and Devin Williams to the New York Yankees this year. In the Burnes deal, Milwaukee acquired then-No. 63 overall prospect Joey Ortiz to help bolster the infield for years to come along with DL Hall. 7/07/25 | MLB Mock Blockbuster Trade: Milwaukee Brewers Deal Freddy Peralta to New York Mets. The Milwaukee Brewers are within reach of the first-placed Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. If Milwaukee follows the same formula it had with Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader, the team will trade right-hander Freddy Peralta before Opening Day 2026. 7/05/25 | Orioles Should Go After Athletics Pitcher To Upgrade Their Starting Rotation. Not having a viable starting rotation and bullpen has been a major reason why this team has performed in such a disappointing manner, with the idea of them competing for a World Series championship and division title ending virtually as soon as the season began. While they offered Corbin Burnes a contract that would have made him the highest-paid pitcher on an AAV basis in Major League Baseball history, they didn't do much to replace him when he decided to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks instead. Because of that, this is looking like a lost year for the Orioles. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Athletics "are now open to trading" Luis Severino just half of a season into the three-year, $67 million contract he signed this past winter.
