June 25 - Martin Maldonado homered and the San Diego Padres' bullpen pitched six scoreless innings Tuesday night as they rallied for a 4-3 win over the visiting Washington Nationals. Jason Adam (6-3) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless work and Robert Suarez tied Kansas City's Carlos Estevez for the MLB lead with his 22nd save by pitching a scoreless ninth. Starter Ryan Bergert left with no outs in the fourth inning after getting hit with a 103 mph line drive off the bat of Jacob Young. 6/23/25 Padres Veteran to Retire at End of 2025 Season. A San Diego Padres veteran is planning on retiring from Major League Baseball after a long career in the majors, finishing out the rest of the 2025 season and sailing off into the sunset. Catcher Martin Maldonado is going to retire at the age of 39 after 15 years in MLB, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. During his lengthy career, he won a Gold Glove award and the 2022 World Series with the Houston Astros.

1/18/25 Former Angels Gold Glove Winner Signs With NL West Powerhouse. Once a Gold Glove winner with the Los Angeles Angels, catcher Martin Maldonado has found a new home on the West Coast. Maldonado and the San Diego Padres agreed to a minor league contract Thursday with an invitation to big league spring training, meaning the 38-year-old will have the opportunity to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. The Puerto Rican native made his Major League Baseball debut in 2011 with the Milwaukee Brewers and earned a Gold Glove with the Angels in 2017.
