10/04/25 | Phillies bench Nick Castellanos for Game 1 against Dodgers. Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos has been benched for Game 1 of the NL Division Series against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani. Castellanos, who played 147 games this season, has faced communication issues with manager Rob Thomson. Max Kepler is starting in right field and batting seventh. Castellanos has been a key player for the Phillies in the last three postseasons. In 2022, he became the first MLB player to hit multiple homers in consecutive playoff games. The two-time All-Star has lost playing time in a crowded outfield that includes Kepler and others. Source: https://www.chron.com/sports/article/phillies-benc... |

9/09/25 | Phillies' Nick Castellanos has somewhat surprising comments about limited role. Things haven't exactly been ideal for Nick Castellanos of the Philadelphia Phillies over the past year or so. There have been periods throughout Castellanos' time in Philadelphia when he's swung the bat at a very high level, but for the most part, his defensive struggles and problems at the plate are tough to ignore. In the 2025 campaign, Castellanos has swung the bat worse than ever throughout his career, posting a career low 90 OPS+ outside of his 11 games in his first season with the Detroit Tigers. Rob Thomson understands that if the Phillies want to be the team they're looking to be in the future, it might require not playing Castellanos as much.
