When former major league pitcher Eric Lauer made his Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) debut with the Kia Tigers on Aug. 11, he got his rude "Welcome to Korea" moment against the Samsung Lions. Lauer, who won 36 games over six seasons with the San Diego Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers, was touched for seven hits, including two home runs, in just 3 1/3 innings. After giving up four earned runs, Lauer took a no-decision in a 5-4 Tigers loss.

The Boston Red Sox clearly will have a decision to make about one of their top hitters from the 2024 season. Boston didn't make the postseason, but there surely were some bright spots. The Red Sox made some moves that didn't work out, but one that definitely did was the acquisition of outfielder Tyler O'Neill from the St. Louis Cardinals. O'Neill has been known to have injury troubles throughout his career, but he was able to stay relatively healthy and appeared in over 100 games for just the second time in his career.

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves the Philadelphia Phillies make during the upcoming offseason to keep their championship window open. It was an incredibly disappointing outcome as the team's bullpen imploded when they were needed most. Finding a full-time answer in center field is important, as is a backend starting pitcher and maybe a bullpen piece or two depending on how free agency shakes out; Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez are both hitting the market.

Luckily for Boston, it may be able to look inward for some of the help it needs. Michael Fulmer and Chris Murphy, who missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from injury, could be ready by the start of training camp this winter.

One of the most impressive aspects of the New York Mets' special run in 2024 came from the emergence of third baseman Mark Vientos. Vientos had a breakout campaign in the regular season and it did not stop in October. Vientos slashed an impressive .327/.362/.636 with a .998 OPS, five home runs and 14 RBI in his first 13 postseason games with the Mets. The surprising part is that Vientos was not even on the Mets' Opening Day roster.
